Family Tree?

I believe someone told me before but it was quite awhile ago. But can anyone possibly get me a copy of my B Anubis's family tree? Or at least tell me more about his ancestors? Just curious who he's related to. Kinda fun to know :) Always interesting to know as much as I can about my baby. I have not yet sent in his papers to be registered in the 4yrs ive had him. But I can give his parents AKC numbers. Is there an expiration or anything to ever send them in? Anubis' Sire is Grays Jake HP19405004 and his Dam is Gray's Daisy HP19377802.

I went there and put in the AKC number and it said no results.

Click on the link in my first response. The Basenji Pedigree Search page comes up. Where it says step 2, there is a box that says 'clair'. Delete those letters and type in that space: Grays. It will bring up 3 names, Daisy's name is first and Jake's name is second on the list. Under the name, there are 5 links you can click on, [PEDIGREE w/ LINKS] | [PEDIGREE w/o LINKS] | [BREEDING INFO] | [TRIAL PEDIGREE] | [REVERSE PEDIGREE]. Click on [PEDIGREE w/ LINKS]. This will direct you to another page that will have Daisy's lineage. Do the same with Jake's name and you will have the ancestry you are looking for. Most breeders use their stock name in the title of the dog, ie; Grays. My breeder is Eldorados, so I would type that name in the box and then look through all those registrys. On this web site use the AKC number only to verify that you are looking at the proper dog's information.
The AKC number only works on the AKC web site. You need to register, prove it is you using a credit card and your dog must be AKC registered. Make sure that when you open an account that it is under the name of the person that the dog is regestered to, or it will not give you access to the information. It has been a while since I have been to that site, so things might have changed a little. I remember that it was easier for me to just go to my cabinet where I keep ALL my dog information and dig out the AKC pedigree and look at that piece of paper.

I heard about the Hestekin Hills dogs…is it true they are inbred? Someone told me once Anubis was descended from them (and I see he is) and that they were inbred. Does anyone know anything about them??

Sorry, never heard of any of the dogs/kennels in the pedigree. There will be a significant late fee for not registering within the first year, you would have to contact the AKC to see what the fee would be, last I saw it was an additional $65, but I'm sure its gone up as everything else has.

Both the sire and dam are in Sally's data base, so if you go to her site and put in the names you will see the pedigrees. The breeding, sorry to say, is totally Backyard Breeders
I do not see any Hestekin dogs in the pedigree (unless I am looking at the wrong dogs) but I don't think much of her dogs or her breeding programs/practices. However that said, not sure what you mean by in-breeding. Many breeders line breed and some think that is in-breeding, but it is pretty common practice.

The early breeding goes back to some very nice 'English' dogs. In fact her tail line goes right back to relations of mine!

I have seen some of the earlier dogs in this pedigree-specifically WL's, Tankersley's, Lori's and Hofer's for sale at the dog auctions. I know Hestekin sold some Bs at a dog auction in either late May or early June 2003 but I had a broken ankle-still in a cast and could not attend. The majority of these breeders are or were USDA licensed breeders/brokers.
I highly recommend you get your dog DNA tested for Fanconi, get either a CERF eye exam or a complete eye exam and a complete thyroid test.

Thank you for that info Jennifer! Im def. going to look into the Fanconi test! Id hate for him to have it. And I am about to bring him into the vet anyways to get his left eye checked…on his eye hes got a weird small cloudy spot. Its not IN the eye it seems to be on the surface of his eye. Like right over his pupil...Ive never seen that before. It looks different than when an old dog starts to go blind. It doesnt seem to effect his vision any though...certainly doesnt slow him down! But I want to make sure its nothing serious. Its staying the same size and not getting any larger or smaller.

You really need to have him checked by a board certified Eye Specialist, a spot on the eye is nothing to take any chances with. Your Vet should be able to give you a referral, if not you can find one on line. And remember the DNA test for Fanconi is not done by your Vet, it is a cheek swab tests that you order and do yourself.

Thank you Tanza! Im going to have my vet refer me to an eye specialist. I dont want it to be anything serious. And Im going to get the Fanconi test kit asap.

Could be! I googled it and it does appear in Basenji's. And ive looked at pics and its quite similar looking.

B's are quite prone to PPM. My female has iris to iris PPM which is acceptable for breeding because it is so small. I cannot see it in her eye though. He may have a larger patch of it. My boy is PPM clear which is nice since I will definately be using him for breeding.
