WI-Menomonie-Male Basenji Mix with 3 Legs-In Foster Home though Shelter

Basenji Rescue
  • This boy is a cutie but was returned after adoption because he did not get along with another male dog. It states that he gets along with most other dogs, house cats, and kids but will chase outside cats and other furry critters. He also has no hearing when he chases things and enjoys sleeping on the bed-sounds like a typical B! He is kenneled trained.

The shelter is approximately 70 miles east of Minneapolis, MN. I have not contacted the shelter to see if he is still available.

    Here is his Petfinder page:

  • This little one is an angel that will fill someone's life with an abundance of love. Look at those darling eyes!

That's all I can say… my eyes are misty right now.

Bless you, little one. Stay strong and know that your forever home is a heartbeat away.

  • Well took the three hour trip over there, brought my "B" over to see how they did. They got along so good, brought him home. First two hours here home was spent chasing and rough housing. The story behind the missing leg is that he was found, taken to the humane society and quickly to a vet. Leg was badly mangled and bloody mouth. X-rays showed an old bullet wound and a bullet and the missing teeth in his stomach. Leg just to far gone to same. Now he has someone to play with and acre plus fenced yard to run in. He sure can run and stairs are no problem.

  • Bless you, that's all I can say. Thank you so much for giving him a second chance to learn what a good home is. Most of my dos are special needs, they enrich my life so much as he will enrich yours. You are a wonderful person.

Dave you are an angel - a true angel! I wish I was close enough to give you a huge hug. I just feel that good karma is going to be following you now for the rest of your life. I keep my fingers crossed that everything will continue to work out well for all of you. I feel in my heart of hearts that this is going to be a super win/win situation.

  • I'm not sure who is luckier - the dog who got a new home, the dog who got a new playmate, or the people who got a new dog and lots of entertainment. Congrats to all..

  • This put such a big smile on my face. Thank you for stepping in! And I'm so excited that a forum member adopted him so we can hopefully get some updates periodically. =)

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you, for choosing a rescue!!

  • God bless you for taking this little darling home with you - people who rescue will be reserved a special place in Heaven - he looks so very happy now; best of luck to all of you.

  • That is so awesome that he found a new home with someone right here on the forum. I am looking forward to lots more pictures of him :)

  • Ditto what's been said – thanks to you there are win - wins all around!

  • I also thank you for being so good to give this boy a,home. it sounds as though he's had a really rough time in the past but I know you'll make up for all that. I hope he gives you a lot of pleasure.

I guess for some people he is too large for a Chi and not quite a Basenji-too small as he weighs 15 lbs. He is estimated to be 5 years old. If you know someone who might be interested in him or a rescue group that could take him, please forward the information. This boy is listed on Craigslist as urgent and here is his information and the link: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/pet/2772364788.html "CODY" needs a second chance. He is a male, Chihuahua / Basenji Mix. He has been at the Van Nuys shelter since OCTOBER 15, 2011. Because "CODY" has been at the shelter so long he is running out of time. Due to the shelter running over capacity he will be euthanized soon if he does not get adopted. Please if you are looking for a dog consider adopting "CODY" and giving him a second chance. He is at the East Valley Shelter in Van Nuys. To see a photo and get additional information please see the link below. http://www.petharbor.com/pet.asp?uaid=LACT.A1257520 Jennifer

The thing with multi-generational mutts is that they tend toward the dog "default" which is the same look that you see in many street dogs and pariah dog, medium size, prick ears, and often tan coloring. Since basenjis are a primitive dog they share these characteristics.
