Gift Exchange: Winter Holidays 2011

Basenji Talk
  • Ohh I am so glad you got your presents! Tucker loves the tree with the chipmunks, I put a whack of toys in it and he loves to just pull them all out. I keep putting them in and he keeps pulling them out, he loves the challenge and it keeps his mind busy. I should have bought more 'Basenji proof' toys…..hahaha I don't think there is such a thing. Well hopefully they love them and have a Wonderful Christmas!

  • @wizard:

I took pictures but my camera won't download anything - aarrgghh! (maybe I can take it to the camera shop after Christmas and see if they can pull the photos).

Not to hijack the thread, but how about taking the camera card to someplace like WalMart or similar that has card readers in the "do it yourself" computers. Assuming the card is readable (should be if you can see the pix) they can make a CD of your pictures for you. Just a thought.

  • A present for the boys arrived yesterday :D

They are spoiled… really spoiled :D
There were two bags of snacks.. they could try it that minute and they love both :D (see the pictures, and also the one with them looking "we want more pleeeeeeeeeease)
And then! There was a puppie kong!!!! Yay!!! the boys already have got their own kongs and nog our little Enya will have a kong of her own too :D :D :D

And... two tennis balls... Chaffie is the tennis ball freak and this morning we could not do anything because mister pretty wanted to play and we had to trow tennis balls for over half an hour :D (Ryan took over afterwards, they have played a long time :D)

AND! a Kong genius!!! I never saw it in the stores before but WOW we can buy more pieces to make it sort of a puzzle.. :D
They already have a lot of fun with this one, I have (of course) kong stuffing and cookies so lots of fun time..

Now see the pictures of two spoiled basenji boys :D
(don't mind the bad lightning of the pics)

  • Oh my! What do you do for an encore on Christmas?? They look like they are having a lot of fun! :)

  • Hunter & Bandit got their present yesterday!!!

Thank you Alex!!!! They LOVE it!!! Pics of them enjoying their new toy!!!

Wish I wouldn't have cropped off Bandit's ears in the one pic. Love her B sit!!!

  • Loving all these pictures! It's great to see multiple basenji packs sharing so nicely. =)

We're hoping something will appear on the last mailing day before Christmas, but if not, I guess it's karmic retribution for us not getting our presents out to our own family in time. That's okay – New Year's is a nice holiday for us, too!

  • My B's got their package today. As soon as hubby walked in the door with it they knew it was theirs. I will post pictures once I get back home! Tucker loooooves the Hedgehog, Becca loves her yellow duckie and Flame has already killed the squeakers on the stuffless duck. They weren't too sure about the biscuits at first and then Becca ate hers and Tuckers. Thank you so much!

  • Success - pictures were retrieved (camera has to go) …

  • Love the last one!

  • Billy, Ren and Teak opened their gifts on Christmas eve.
Thank you very much to their Basenji buddy!!

Billy realizes that he has a gift…

He can't see it, but he can chew it!

Enthusiastic Ren has a gift as well.

A new coat and a new friend.

    Teak also has a present

And he "gets" this gift opening business!

In his ruggedly handsome new sweater.

As always, Billy ends up with all the toys!

  • Chance and Kiya love their toys! Thanks vickilb!

  • Love the head in the envelope shot! :)

  • Buana, the package arrived today just in time for the dogs' afternoon snacktime! Thank you for all the goodies, also the human ones. =) Both dogs are munching on their hot dogs right now. I'm also very excited about the ostrich training treats. That's not a protein that you see very often in stores around here!

I'll post pictures later. Meanwhile, happy new year to everyone!!

  • Ok here are some pics of the pup's Christmas haul from their B friend. Thank you Wizard!

    :D Great!!!!
We were still a bit afraid you would give the doggies by accident the human treats… That's why I wrote it on the package as well :D

The Ostrich is so healthy, we see it here more and more, they love it here!

  • @krunzer:

Ok here are some pics of the pup's Christmas haul from their B friend. Thank you Wizard!

Those look like some pretty happy basenjis who took NO TIME to figure out the contents of that box was for them!

  • Is there going to be another gift exchange this season?? It was so much fun!

Our winters here in Australia are not like yours in New England - we don't get snow where I am, but do get hard frosts. Cold days are 14C, but situated where I am on the side of a hill, the wind off the snow area 75 kms further up the valley can get a bit lazy - prefers to go through you rather than round you!! And as we all know - Basenjis don't 'do' cold!! My Swedish boy is cuddled up in his bed in front of the heater beside me. Silly boy still gets his summer coat in our winter!!

We use the muttluks for Mowgli and Miika and they do stay on, they are on the second pair already as they used them so much the old ones have holes in the bottoms - i think this is mainly from the salt on the roads. The pups love them and don't mind wearing them and are a must up here in northern Alberta.

For all those of you living in cold climates - I got a "Chilly Dog" coat (http://www.chillydogs.ca/) for Brodie a couple Christmases ago. It is a great design and super warm and has held up really well. A bit expensive but worth it. He also got a matching head muff which was supposed to keep his ears warm (this was when we were living in Ottawa and the -40C weather) but he hated having his ears covered.

When Lillie had stitches in her paw, I needed to keep the paw dry. I tried everything. What worked and fit the best were natural rubber, waterproof dog boots by Pawz. 12 disposable boots…slips on, stays on. I believe they were around $17.00. Their website is www.PAWZDOGBOOTS.com. Of course, as soon as we came in from our walk, Lillie was trying to get them off. Another waterproof dog boots we tried were waterproof nylon boots with non-skid soles and Velcro straps for a snug fit. $9.99 They did not fit as snug as the pawz. There is no website on the package. The company is Signature Fashion Pet Collection…#130 Waterproof Woof Boots. Good luck! Jodie:)
