Wow, I am surprised to see so many posts regarding the aggression thing. I have a 3 yr. old who thinks she is the queen of the universe, and is totally the alpha with her b-mix sister, but she plays well with others at dog parks and elsewhere, with the exception that there are certain B's she will get snarky with. We've never been able to figure out what it is she doesn't like in some of her own kind. It doesn't happen every time but it makes the other owners nervous when it does happen, so I have stopped going to the dog park where the B's she has trouble with go. There are very rare situations with other type dogs. The only time she will start to "hair up" in a park is when she is tired from running and resting behind my legs at a picnic bench. If a dog comes up to get to her by going around my legs then, she will growl and threaten; I believe this is "go away I'm resting and get away from my person" because she doesn't come out fighting but sounds very serious about the whole thing. Also, if another dog tries to "mate," she will quickly sit down, turn around and snarl her displeasure, but won't push it any further. I do think basenjis may not have much patience with dogs they consider their inferiors.
My dog Cash

Hello, my name is Lynne and I have a basenji mix. He is a great dog! He is our first Basenji. We rescued him from the local Humane Society only because we like his looks, we knew nothing about Basenji's. Wow were we in for a surprsie. Cash looks like a Basenji with the curly tail but stands a bit smaller. He has ALL the characteristics of a Basenji. We were in for a ride after bringing him home. Little did we know how smart, agile, fast, sweet, tricky, stubborn, lovable, obedient and proud he was. He is a beauty. I quickly became educated through the internet, books, trainers and BRAT about this amazing dog we brought home. I agreed to foster for BRAT and have had 2 mixes which I found homes for before ever needing to put them on the web-site. I now have rescued another small dog as she was going to be put down and I rec'd a call about her that was urgent. She is not Basenji, she is Italian Greyhound but she is quickly learning all of Cash's tricks! I loook forward to fostering Basenji's again in the future but 2 dogs is our family limit.
My daughter and her husband are expecting their first baby, due Sept. 5th. I would love to have a Basenji lover take care of our Cash while we are gone and as we visit them on other occasions. We live in Belleville, Illinois. Very - Very close to St. Louis, within 20 miles. (Of course we will pay for your time and love.) Please contact me if you can help us out.
If you are thinking of adopting a Basenji, they are amazing dogs, but teach yourself about them first so the experiences is wonderful for both of you. Consider a basenji mix too… they are great dogs!
I have attached 2 pictures of Cash
Thank you!!

Welcome Lynne and Cash - nice to have you both as members of this forum! Cash is a very striking looking dog. Do you know what he is mixed with?

Very cute, not sure I really see Basenji, but there are many breeds that have a tail curl like Akitas, Sibs (huskie breeds), and then there are the Shiba's. But all are welcome here… Shiba's are just a Basenji with long hair....gggg

Well I sure see the Shepard, not the Basenji…. ggg... I still would have guessed Shiba.

The coloring reminded me of a Finnish Spitz.
