@elbrant Thanks for the help
Free to a great home

The economy is terrible, foreclosures are everywhere, people working 2 jobs (if they can get them) to make ends meet. Like everywhere, I guess, the shelters are full of dogs people surrender when they lose homes. Lots of other breeds are in rescue as well, of course, but it's raining basenjis. A friend just adopted a "rehomed" basenji yesterday, so there's one that won't be in rescue!

Pictures are up!!
Thanks.

Thanks for the photos. She sure has the white feet and tip of tail. How tall is she and how much does she weigh? I am not sure, but she could be a p/b basenji who is poorly bred. Or not,
The breeders will look at the photos and chime in I am sure. Remind me again, were did you get her?? -
Remind me again, were did you get her??
First post, said took her when his father-in-law had stroke. Question may be where did the FIL get the dog? Maybe that source can rehome?
-
Do you or your FIL know if she has had health testing - specifically for Fanconi?
-
She was given to my brother by one of his co-workers in Texas. She is a mix, but I don't know with what….I checked to see if the original owners would be interested in taking her and they are not.
She has not been tested for Fanconi...but she is up-to-date on her shots and stuff.
She weighs 25 pounds ( she was just weighed today) and she's very active...loves to run and jump at the park and day care!!

She's beautiful! Don't know why it matters if she is pure bread or mix, she still needs a loving forever home Good luck with your search.
-
Cpeck, if the dog is purebred (I am laughing, the pure bread mix is a funny combo, but it is bred as in breeding, not bread as in sourdough) then basenji rescues might help. With a mix, BRAT lets you post it, but they won't foster and take it.

Go to the brat website and list your dog under the mixes. That way people looking for one might see it. -
Thanks for pointing out my error Debra. I am well aware of the difference and simply made a mistake in typing.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you have the chance to read many of the different threads on hear (here)… it's really your decision weather (whether) to keep her or to find her a knew (new) home, but based on what you've written, she sounds like she has a wonderful life with you! Many basenjis are happy staying home alone, basking in the sunshine in the window, and simply weighting (waiting) until we get home from work to spend time with us!
And on a personal note, I will keep your father-in-law in my thoughts and prayers.
-
Yes she is lovely. I hope her new home comes up soon!

LOL I am the queen of typos and mistypes. But that one was a bit funny so had to comment. Hope I didn't offend! And glad you know… so many do not. Of course they also ask about Rockwilders, Rottwilders etc. The ones that drive me nuts are GSD owners who call them German Sheperds or chihuahua owners who can't spell it.

Thank you to all with your suggestions.
PS: My step-father is improving everyday, thank you.
