Looking to Re-home my Basenji Male 2yo

  • Blu is a 2 year old male. He has not yet been neutered but is scheduled for the procedure in 3 weeks. He has a very strong personality, needs a lot of attention and companionship of other dogs, which unfortunately I am not able to give him.

He has very typical Basenji traits. He is extremely affectionate, can pick up new tricks very easily, loves to play with other dogs and humans and will steal your heart. On the down side, he nips when he is excited or when he is asleep and someone wakes him up, so is not really good to be in a household with small children. He may be aggressive to other male dogs, but is not always so. In fact I take him to doggy day care, where he meets and plays with several dogs of all sizes.

He is fully up to date with vaccines and has no health problems.

    Located in Malta, Europe.

Reason for rehoming: My working conditions have changed and I am out of the house very often. Blu gets very anxious when left alone, bored and hence destructive. Getting him another dog is not an option for me. He will settle in nicely in a household with other Basenjis.

  • There was a person in Qatar that was looking for a B. Look through the forum to find them.

  • There are no direct flights to Qatar - its not ideal.

  • Have you contacted the breeder?

  • I have a 2 yr old basenji female that’s looking for a buddy. I just don’t know how to handle international issues. Do you have pictures? I’m home all day and just recently retired. !![0_1542161237444_B88C9453-B976-4F67-8351-FE1C0A09ADC0.jpeg](Uploading 11%)

@cathyroy I am not sure what Natasha is doing, if busy or whatever with the holidays. You may be what she wants, but she's got company or otherwise tied up. She did say maybe set up a trial, so give it a few days before getting upset. However, I will make a few observations about the fit. you have small children you say are good with animals, but you don't have one, so how do you know how they will be with one actually living with you? your interest in a basenji is based on their lack of significant shedding. This is not the breed for a family with young children who have little or no experience with dogs. Your husband presumably works, so the dog will mostly be with you and your children. you are wanting to ADD a dog to your family. She isn't looking to give the dog away. Just as you would be careful of who you have babysit your children, she hopefully wants a suitable fit for her dog. For me, that would be someone experienced in the breed or at least a lot of experience with a variety of dogs and is interested in fostering, not taking, my dog. It isn't an easy decision either for her or for someone agreeing to keep her dog.

@Meiberry: Gunner is tri color and loves his toys and enjoys playing with kids. We have his AKC records, he is neutered and shot records are all up to date. Has the dog been placed?

My gut feeling is if you can't find a dog who is utterly good with cats already, your best and safest bet is a puppy. I suggest you get on a couple of breeder's list and wait for the perfect pup for your house.
