You and Scarlett will enjoy the class - and it already sounds like you have a lot of the basics going very, very well. 🙂 I found the part of the class I didn't like was the first 10 minutes where all dogs were allowed off leash to socialize. With FoPaws puppies being so well socialized, I found that first 10 minutes just wound up Kipawa so much, with all the playing! Then, it took me a good 10 minutes to calm him down enough to really work well in the class. The good news is that I am seeing as Kipawa ages and becomes more respectful he doesn't need to go wild when he first meets a new dog. I also think that not taking him to the play area off leash park is also helping him.
Kipawa at the U.S. beach

There is a great marine park beach just south of us, in the U.S. that I've taken Kipawa to the last couple of days. He's had a blast there. It's very quiet and has lots of places to run, play and sniff. Enjoy the pics.

What a lucky boy he is to have such a wonderful Mom!

Oh, trust me, we are the lucky ones! My husband and I realize that every second he enriches our lives!

OMG, he is beautiful. He has the same look his dad has…like the world is there entirely for him and its all great. He really is lucky to have you and Darrel. Kiss the little man (in motion) for us.

PS I talked to AKC yesterday and his registration is still in processing, they should being finishing it and sending it out to you anytime now. Here I thought registering the entire litter at once would speed things up, according to them it slows it down. Live and learn. -
Oh, Therese, you breed such lovely b's..
Fran, I can't believe how much he has grown.
We will see him in Aug at EBC yes? -
What a handsome man! He sure is growing up Beautiful scenery

Gorgeous pics of the handsome Kipawa. I couldn't help noticing all the lovely pieces of driftwood too.

We will see him in Aug at EBC yes?Bang on, Sharron. IMO, Therese breeds the best! When we meet people during our outings, they always comment about his temperament and how great he looks. I'm sure Therese can see my smile when I mention Therese's breeding program.
He HAS grown so much. After posting his pictures, I went back and looked at my first ones of him. What a difference! He is almost 23 lbs. now, but I still carry him around like a baby puppy.
OF COURSE we will be at the EBC in August - we wouldn't miss it for anything! Because this year we will need to find a combo handicap/allow dogs room, I am going to start my hunt for a hotel/motel soon. The Best Western that we stayed in last year does not allow dogs. Where have you stayed with your dogs in the past?

Ohhhhh yes… the driftwood. If I could pick up some of the fine pieces and bring it back in my car, I would. It would make some great landscaping features.

He's growing up fast! I just love that 2nd photo, the wrinkles and that smirk of his… adorable.

Hello Fran and Kipawa!
He is looking marvelous…so big and happy. I love the pic with three legs off the ground and all the ones with the waves (looks like curiosity turned into "heck no, I don't want any of that!").
I'm glad to see he is doing so well. Scarlett started her basic obedience class last Saturday and I think she will be in the bottom of her class:) B's just have a way about them..." Heel!, What's in it for me!".
Therese's B's are the greatest! IMO;)

Hi Walter and Scarlett! Don't fret about the classes, just do the best you can. Kipawa was somewhere in the middle of the class. Basenjis go at their own pace, I believe. I also found that by the last 10 - 15 minutes of the class he had decided he had enough. Just work at home with Scarlett - 10 mins. max per session. I found that really helped us. And, lots of praise and some treats always help. Hope to see you both at the Evergreen Basenji Club specialty in August! We will be there as admirers of all the dogs that will be shown.

Are you familiar with Tsawwassen? Take the main drag (56th) and drive straight until you hit the border. Carry your dog's vaccination papers with you in case they ask to see them (they rarely, if ever, do). Of course, you will need your passport. Go through the border and travel straight down the road. Eventually you will see a marina on your left. Continue on the road, which veers to the right. Continue until you see Marine Park. Park your car and head out for a great walk!
I only ever see BC licence plates there! Oh, and don't forget to get cheap gas! We use the station called Can-Am. Their prices are always the lowest. You will be blown away by what you save. Filling up my coupe here with premium gas costs me about $110 and I can fill up there for $75.
