Pearl, 7-9 yo tri girl in WI

  • BCOSW has a beautiful, older tri girl in foster care, looking for a forever home.
Pearl is 6-9 years old, is very sweet, and would do best in a home with no kids and no other dogs.
If anyone contacts you looking for an older basenji, please keep Pearl in mind.
We don't know much about Pearl's history other then the fact that she was found running with another basenji on a Farm in rural WI.
Pearl may have been a former show dog, as she is quite a looker, and gaits and stacks on the table like an old pro.
Pearl is spayed, up to date on vaccines and HWT and is microchipped.
You can find her on petfinder at: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17594607

and can see some videos of her at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbQdjMJrP-c&feature=player_embedded

  • Nicole, she is beautiful! I hope Pearl can find a forever home… what happened to the red girl? :)

  • @Patty:

what happened to the red girl? :)

We separated them, and Ruby found her forever home with the family that was fostering her.

  • I was hoping they would get to stay together but I'm glad Ruby has a forever home. I hope Pearl finds one soon. A couple months back when the original "finder" of Ruby and Pearl had the ad in craigslist I called about them but the man said someone from rescue had just picked them up.

  • We kept them together for quite a while, then did a trial separation, and found that they actually did better without each other around, especially Ruby.

Together, they did not need to come round to people. Apart, they blossomed, and developed into their own individual personalities, and are very sweet.

Ruby is in a great home with kids, and a Boston terrier. She has a yard. She gets read to at night, and is a real cuddlebug with her new family.

Now if we could just find as great a family for Pearl.

    .

How absolutely precious! I hope Pearl is as lucky! :)

I would take her in a heartbeat if I had room.. unfortunately I'm pushing my limits with my father already, as I've saved a few cats while living with him again. She sounds like a wonderful dog. I have no doubt that the bites were provoked. Dogs, especially Basenjis, can be very sensitive. If you don't understand that you're dealing with an animal that has feelings too, you're in trouble. I will keep her in my prayers. May she find the best fur-ever home!

Ahhh I miss all the baroo'ing. Now that Griff doesn't have his girl he rarely does it. She and he would baroo whenever anyone came into the house. Kiz is totally silent, so Griff has only barooed a couple times in the 3 months we've had Kiz :(. I had hoped Girff would teach Kiz.

I will forward this to BRAT, but BRAT doesn't pay for dogs…if the shelter wants to release her to BRAT, I am sure they can help her. But thank you for letting me know. I will send this on asap.

@Jylly18: She also has a small tatoo on her belly, its a circle and a cross below, the sign for female. I don't know if that was cosmetic or a breeder thing, but its something I've never seen before on another dog. My guess is that her tattoo is a sign that she's been spayed. I've heard of female dogs that were spayed at some humane society type places being tattooed so that if she winds up in a bad place again, the people taking her in will know she's been spayed. The ones I've seen have been an X in a circle. Saves doing another surgery.

Well, I think my goal might get met after all. I contacted someone in Wisconsin about the other older dog in need of help, and even though he was taken care of, the person I emailed referred me to someone with basenjis that only lives about 20 min away! She emailed me tonight, I just got done responding to her, hopefully we can meet up soon!
