    Found this on another forum I'm a member of and figured I'd share it:

    An elderly man in Kentucky had owned a large farm for several years. He had a large pond in the back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and some apple, and peach trees.
    One evening the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while to look it over. He grabbed a five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit.
    As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee… As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond.
    He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end. One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!"

    The old man frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked."

    Holding the bucket up he said, "I'm here to feed the alligator."

    @JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

    Keepers, owners, what have you, it is all about the humans involved. I have a "long" flexi - 20 ft.- that I use when walking in the park that my property abuts to, and I always pick up after my friend. In my jurisdiction I am completely legal but I have to deal with the fools thinking that a city park is the right place to (illegally) ride their dirt bikes. Pay no attention to the fact that they occasionally come into my yard and leave tracks. But I can be fined for not picking up after my friend? Sometimes I think we (humans) are idiots.

    I think the communication breakdown was between Ellen and Portia. Portia (Ellen's partner) was the one who signed the papers so she probably was the one who was told the rules about the adoption. I think Portia probably failed to communicate with Ellen what the rules were if they no longer want the dog. Either way, I think the whole situation was handled poorly and I blame it all on Human Error. It happens.
