• At one of our upcoming shows in October, Espen Engh from Norway will be the judge.

Anyone "across the pond" care to share anything you might know… likes, dislikes, type of Basenji (if any), likes the breed?, good with the breed, especially puppies....

    Thanks

Update: Well with a bit of searching, I see that he is a greyhound breeder

  • I can't comment on the judge himself; however I can comment for showing under the FCI since I have done that.

FCI judges look more at the dog than they do the handler. Dog showing is truly about the dog. How the dog moves, how THE dog shows, not really as much how the handler shows it. The FCI doesn't really look at the handler, like I said it is ALL about the dog. I have been to many shows where people are just in jeans and a polo shirt or something like that. And they have even won BOS. Now of course for the bigger shows they do dress up more or will change for the big rings, but for breed rings there is no reason to dress up.

I'm not saying that changes AKC rules and do that for your show but to just give you an idea.

  • Thanks, it is pretty much standard that people dress "semi" dressed up for AKC shows in general, so one would look pretty much out of place to show in jeans, etc… No written rule, just the way it is
Sometime when a person might have more then one dog for the Winners class or BOB a person on the sidelines is grabbed to help, regardless of the dress.

  • Espen Engh has judged here but unfortunately I didn't attend. Again isn't this a great resource for 'sussing' individual judges who haven't judged in our respective countries before??

Exactly…. I did find out with a bit more searching that he judged in the US just a couple of years ago and at the same cluster, but not Basenjis..... He did give a RR Group 1 in the Hound group

  • I found this about him:

And for example some results from Finland from 2008:

I hope that this will help you (at least a little:D ).

  • I see he made Franie's half brother Pessi Finnish Youth Winner and reserve best male.. Haha, she will do fine 😉
