Why? they are so sweet… :D

I was just kidding ;) I like all animals. I have had 14 hamsters, rabbits, a chicken, three cats, three ferrets, birds.. but never a rat though.. My mom isn't really an animal person, so a rat was just a bit too much.. ggg.. :D but I think they are really adorable. :)

Why don't you have another animal at home???
My mom and dad both are crazy about animals.. I sometimes came back with insects.. my mom said "Put into your room OR in the garden.. not in my kitchen!!!! hahaha"

Well.. I would like to add a cat.. But I don't think it's fair for the cat.. being home alone a lot… And there isn't a kitten daycare ;) So I should take two cats.. but.. I don't think BF would agree..

And rabbits, birds, hamsters etc.. I believe they need a lot of room.. not a cage.. and well.. with Tillo.. :D :D

So that leaves a horse (no time and not a lot of room in Almere) or another dog..

My mom grew up at a farm.. gg.. but she just doesn't like animals.. She likes Tillo and Lycia and she was kind to all the animals I've had.. But that's it :)

  • She is really cute! Rats, yes; Naked rats, yes; Naked-Mole Rats…not so much;)

    Happy Birthday!

  • No rats for me but I do love little hamsters. Had one named Miss Mousy that would play dead when the dog got too close to the cage. Went on so long a few times I thought she actually was dead!

  • She's a pretty girl! Looks like a cozy cage too.
I used to have a white rat girl too, she was naughty and nipped sometime's.
THEN I got a hairless male rat he was the opposite, very sweet, calm and never nipped. He was not as healthy as the girl and passed away at a young age. I miss the little guy

Cats don't mind being alone - sometimes they much prefer it. So long as they have food, water, a litter box and someplace to lie in the sun, they are happy. Though they do love to lie on laps and get petted when it's their idea.;)

When our cat is allone, he won't eat..
Whe we come home he starts to eat immediately, he doesn't mind when de Basenji's are with him but when everybody is gone.. he doesn't like being allone.
I think some cats don't mind it and some cats do. :)

I agree.. and I really like the Abyssinian, which is a cat that needs a lot of attentions and play..

I agree. Sumi does really well by herself. She has been an only cat since I took her home from her momma at 12 weeks old. She lived with a dog for a few years, but hates other cats. In the wild, they tend to be solitary like Cougars and only congregate when they need to exchange DNA.

Happy Birthday to your little gal. She's beautiful.

I had a hooded rat named Fruit-Loop years ago. She got the name because my ex was lying on the floor eating a bowl of them and got up to do something. Her cage door was open, so she went to inspect the bowl and see whether there was anything in it for her. When she leaned on the edge of the bowl, the whole thing tipped over on top of her! She was covered from head to tail tip in milk, but happily munching the cereal when I removed the bowl. It was the first time I ever had to give a rat a bath.

These cats have also similar behaviour to Basenjis :). No wonder when this cat comes from Africa :D.
I believe she would gets along with Tillo and wouldn't needs a partnership with another cat ;):).

@JENGOSMonkey I WAS THERE FOR '89! I was a kid, but I remember the water coming out of the swimming pool in huge waves and everything falling from the shelves! I was actually born in San Jose, but moved around a lot later LOL I hear the wildfires are more of a concern for you guys now? That's scarier than quakes for me...

I cannot imagine committing to buy a puppy without seeing the animal and if possible the sire and dam. OTOH, a rescue (or adoption of an older dog) is a different thing. My last two Basenjis came to me sight unseen, and turned out to be wonderful dogs, but the breeders I got them from wanted to place their dogs in an experienced Basenji home, and I only paid the cost of getting the dogs to me. One came by air, one was personally transported to me by his breeder. If she hadn't been happy with what she found I expect she would have taken him back with her when she left. I also had to commit to return him if ever I couldn't keep him. Good breeders care about where their dogs end up.

@kembe - Very True Kembe, here is a link on looking for a responsible breeder. https://bconc.org/finding-breeders-red-flags There are many scammers out there, don't fall for one.. or a person that is not a responsible breeder.

@Kembe, nice post! We've gone to solid food chopped up in a food processor, but we're grinding it a bit more course as we go. So far, no puppies are choking, but good to know!

@Ashmoore92 It got put on the "back burner" ... I have some, but not enough for a book. I'll circle back around to it.
