  • Hello,

Sorry I haven't posted anything in such a long while, here are some latest pictures of my Roxy at Scruffts, Discover Dogs, London this year. Hope you like them and thanks for looking. :)

On the train going to London….Yes, she travels very well! :D

    At Scruffts….

Watching for the return of a friend who had gone shopping…

    "I wants a pic n' mix…."

And with a celebrity fan of hers! ;)

  • Nicola, i love the pics of Roxy, she's beautiful. I see she likes to travel in style on the train. What is her temperament like? My hubby and myself are wondering because a Border Collie wants to please and a Basenji….........well need i say more :D
Also is that John Barrowman with her in the last pic?

  • Hello Shelley,

    Thank you.

Roxy's temperament is outstanding, best I have ever known actually! She's not the brainiest dog (!) but she knows basic obedience and a few tricks. I guess if we'd had her from a puppy her training might have been more advanced but who cares! She's great as she is.

She loves nothing better than to soak up the attention given to her by people and she adores other dogs. She has tons of character and I just think she's great. :D

Yes, that's John Barrowman, Captain Jack himself!

  • Lucky you meeting Captain Jack, yum, yum :D

  • Can you take your dogs most places with you there? In the states, some places are restrictive re dogs, unless their service dogs.

  • "Captain Jack" trumps all . . . 'cept the Doctor himself, of course! What a great time you and Roxy must have had! Great photos! Isn't there a song…."I'm just waitin' on a friend"....the picture seems to say it all.

  • I am so jealous of Roxy! John Barrowman is awesome. Even better than the Doctor (well, depending on which one you're talking about. :p)!

  • Great pictures..she is such a pretty dog..

  • We could, of course talk about the "Doctor" and confuse many…and you are absolutely correct...it does depend on which one we are talking about (my first was Tom Baker), and we Americans tend to have an affinity for our "first". But the pics are still great and "Captain Jack" still rocks!!!:D:D

    Torchwood, anyone????

  • @BART:

    Torchwood, anyone????

Umm, totally! I hope it comes back in some form in the future. And Tom Baker was my first Doctor too, although I like David Tennant alot. Not so sure how I'll feel about the new one. To make this basenji related again…now that Roxy has connections with Captain Jack, maybe she can be the Torchwood mascot. :D

    Shouldn't we tell Roxy first???:D:D:D

  • I apologize for kinda highjacking your thread. Your pics are beautiful and having Cap't Jack just made them more wonderful. Done here…..Nemo?

Yep, I was done. :D And I agree, great pics!

  • I've met Roxy and I must say I could have taken her home! Her temperament and personality are fab! Glad to see you got her on the train no probs.

Now on to the important stuff - Definitely Torchwood! :D
I love Doctor Who, David Tennant was/is the best. Don't like the look of the new guy though.

I do prefer John Barrowman when he speaks with his proper Scottish accent, it makes him even more handsome!!! :o

  • Oh dear i remember the first Doctor, William Hartnell ;)
I must admit that David Tennant does nothing for me, but John Barrowman, Oh Yes, especialy in his uniform :D
Lucky Roxy getting a cuddle :D

  • Haha, what are you all like! :D

I must admit, David Tennant doesn't do anything for me either though I do love him as Doctor Who. I love Doctor Who and Torchwood, especially when the Barrowman makes an appearance. Oh yes, he's gorgeous! Even more so in the flesh. :o And like some others, I love it when he speaks with his Scottish accent. Oh my….:p

I'm sure Roxy would be happy to be the Torchwood mascot.

Thanks for the lovely comments about my Roxy. :)

Yes, I agree, DT is the best Doctor Who that I've seen and I adore John Barrowman, especially when he speaks in his Scottish accent! Oh, delicious. :o

Hi everyone, Thanks for all of your replies! Rex just had his first vet visit (first with me at least), and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet that I saw also agrees with a lot of you that he looks like a Min Pin more than a Basenji, but he is likely still mixed with something because he's a bit too big to be a pure Min Pin. I've looked at a few DNA Dog Breed tests online, and they seem to range in price and in quality. It seems like some of the cheaper (~$50) tests are fake, but they go all the way up to almost $250 for the higher quality ones. Do any of you have experience with these DNA tests / have a brand you found reputable? I'll be sure to post the results of any of the tests with this forum! Thanks again, and Rex is doing really great in his new home!! [image: 1559586518913-img_3707-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586546977-img_3720-resized.jpg] [image: 1559586568474-img_3708-resized.jpg]

Thanks for saving a life ! I agree obediance is definitely atypical of a basenji ! The mixed breed dogs are the best most of the time. I have 7 dogs all different breed mixes except for my George who looks like a pure bred Basenji. All of my dogs including the basenji are rescue dogs (and not from the shelter !) Found on the side of the road rescues!......Thank you , glad the dog found a good home! Helen

@styvez: He does Bark, but tends to make a whole lot of other noises instead, i've read up on Basenji's but never seen or heard one so i dont know what kind of noises they make. Does he sound anything like this? http://s11.photobucket.com/user/eeeefarm/media/Basenji/MOV01074.mp4.html

@Lovelace: Really? What ones? I don't know of any that have all the criteria? I've done extensive research on the breeds, and i'm curious I don't recall any. I think Pat means lots of dogs have one or more of these traits. Those three things all together MAY be an indication that the dog does have some basenji in it…but not for sure. Because the dog could be a boxer/husky mix...and end up with right color/markings, pointy ears, a curly tail, and have wrinkle on the forehead (lots of dogs have wrinkles around the face). Rat terriers are notorious for looking like Basenjis...but the shape of their head is slightly different, and the breed was founded using some Basenji way back. Another thing to remember is that after several generations of mixing, all dogs tend to go back to a natural or pariah dog shape...squarish, brown, pointy ears, slightly curled tail...that is just the natural phenotype of "dog"...so a dog might end up looking Basenji-ish even if there is no actual Basenji there. I am not refering specifically to the OP...that dog does look like it might have some Basenji in it..or Rat terrier...but it is REALLY hard to say for sure. It doesn't matter really, because everyone is welcome here...Basenji, mix, B-look alike...welcome...
