I live in Canada Montreal and im looking for a basenji i can’t seem to find one anywhere if you guys know any breeders or places i can go it would be much appreciated. thank you

Email me privately - address in websites on signature block, but I warn you - Covid has brought Basenji would-be puppy owners out in droves and the few breeders who are having a litter this winter have full waiting lists. Two breeders I know have started on a list for the winter of 2021, inviting prospective owners to meet and become acquainted with Basenjis. I have emails from several people who have already put themselves onto the Rescue waiting list. . . in case a Basenji turns out to be too much once (if) restrictions are lifted. Anyway - we are once more in full Lockdown - and I am just praying they don't close the carparks to the (porous) woods again like they did last time, leaving loads of us scrabbling for a parking spot on the main road close to one of the holes into the forest.

As I've said several times in different threads - Covid has brought out a plethora of would-be Basenji owners, not just in UK but across Europe. We are starting to fear dogs being dumped into Rescue when lockdown is lifted and people return to work in offices , having realised there is far more to owning a Basenji than just the facts that they don't bark, are small and keep themselves clean like cats. I have had well over 70 - probably 80 now the weekend's crop of enquiries has been dealt with per email and entered into my notes - and am at a loss to be able to tell them of a single breeder who doesn't already have a waiting list full to overflowing. Anyone posting me privately will receive a detailed response but it won't carry too much hope for this winter.

I very much doubt that you will find a Basenji in the UK this coming winter. Covid seems to have convinced so many people they can now have a dog - and they light upon Basenjis for a number of reasons, often without going thoroughly into the challenges of ownership of one of these challenging little animals ! All the breeders I know have full waiting lists even after filtering out all but the most promising future owners. I haven't bred for over 10 years but enquiries for puppies still come in, several a week - two just this morning. We just have to hope that irresponsible people won't mate un-health-tested dogs, just to cash in on demand. It all depends on the allergy - whether a Basenji will or won't affect your wife. They shed, often pretty constantly throughout the year instead of one big winter-coat moult although some lines do have that.

A quick google search yielded this site: www.eurobreeders.com. Search breeds, then B, then look for Basenji. There where many breeders that popped up including a couple in Italy, which isn’t too far I suppose. I have no idea about Basenji breeding in Europe though. Do your homework.

@hawk8875 - Those listing with AKC are paid advertisements. There is no requirement on who can pay to be listed. Go to www.basenji.org and then to find breeder and you can search by state. Breeders listed on there are members of the Basenji Club of America.

Go to the Basenji Club of America's web site (BCOA). To find Basenji breeders go to the Breeder Directory. Breeders are listed by state. @liz-falzone Not sure if you are one of the 60 or so would-be Basenji puppy purchasers who has emailed me privately - PC is in the hospital and I am working on my laptop so can't access the list. But that alone does tell you a great deal ! I haven't bred a litter for 12 years now but am still getting enquiries - current breeders are also inundated. We have been weeding through enquirers, putting many people off this challenging breed if they should perhaps look elsewhere, and filling lists of known 2020 winter breeders. Many have been accepting visitors and establishing a relationship. And have closed lists. But breeders this winter seem to be holding their cards close to their chests, Rescues have been rehomed and Breed Clubs don't have many intended pairings listed. I may be able to help but need to know a great deal more about you - location, knowledge of the breed, children, working from home etc. My email addresses are on the websites listed in my signature bloc

Not too many responsible breeders in Fla... go to www.basenji.org and search by state. Note that Basenjis only come in season once a year and 99% of puppies are only born Nov/Dec/Jan, so you most likely will not find any pups this time of year
