We did a biopsy a week into it and it was not cancerous, so waiting for the bump to go away was the only other option. I though surgery would be too intrusive in the nose area. Kiya had to endure two weeks of wearing the cone day and night to prevent her from scratching her nose. She seems to get all kinds of things around her nose, just recently she got bitten by a bee nosing around in the grass and was back into the cone for a week.

Looked at pictures of both, and the Bite Not Collar just looks better because they have 360 vision, you seem to be able to adjust the width with more accuracy as well. The Kong collar looked as though a paw could get through the neck and make the scenario more traumatic! In a pinch I borrowed a neighbor's 'cone of shame…' and Uzie just froze in place, when he did move he bumped into everything. I kept it on him for maybe 1/2 hour while the benedrly took effect and he slept for few hours. He got a canine tooth puncture and he kept scratching it thus preventing a heal. So it was not sutures as you have to think about, but the next morning he did have total closure-the thick folds of skin of a basenji. Ps: there was not any swelling and he is doing 100%! Same here…. our table scraps are our dinner leftovers.... not stuff that you would not eat. Their favorite is eggs in the morning.... :-)

their teeth and gums are fine (i clean Ebby's constantly as she has a bad bite, hence why she got placed in a pet home as she was sposed to be the breeders show dog) i check their mouths regularly anyway. the smell didnt go so i took them to the vets and they had a minor tummy bug (baterial) which cleared up with a dose of AB's and their breath came good! they put it down to the pipe run off from our sink and we now have a sturdy cage (with a lid of course) around the outlet :) as they both had it p.s. i thought it was just me but i kept asking my partner and he said he could smell it too lol

Oakley was on the Iams intestinal sensitivity formula because I tried taste of the wild ( of all kinds) and he was still having stool issues, combined with a puppy bout of giardia…he did well on it but I didn't feel good about the ingredients. From there I tried nature variety and he wasn't a fan. He has been sensative stool wise with many of the high quality foods so now we use Fromms and he is terrific. He loves all the varieties ( I mix two kinds at a time..one of their grain free versions with a grain version in order to get a reduced grain diet; stool issues if none or too much!) His weight is steady and his coat has never looked shinier, smoother of softer. Lastly, he loves the taste and I don't have to coax him to eat. I agree with not free feeding OR feeding from the same bowl. Since yours have issues (whether it's weight or sensitivity) knowing when they ate and controlling how much will allow you to better navigate around the health issues and possibly identify the cause of some as well!

The food is the same and he just had a check up with blood work-Thyroid the same and so is the pill dosage. I will give him a bath and rub some cream in his coat. Thanks for the help

Did you receive a pedigree? Before the definitive Fanconi DNA test, I was testing my rescues for glucose in the urine at 2 years of age. I have not yet retested my dogs with the updated DNA test so they are still being tested for glucose in the urine. Jennifer

actually there was a discussion on the Clean Run groups about cooling coats. I know CR sell several different types and CR is very good about testing what they sell.

@TwinDogsDifferentMothers: Our opinion is, you own your dog, you know if they are struggling under the conditions and exercise load that you work them at. If that is the case then you should take whatever steps are necessary to keep your dog healthy. There is nothing wrong with buying some extra equipment to be on the safe side no matter what anyone else says. Absolutely agree with you. And some dogs will need it more than others.

Yes, bronzing is quite common in Basenjis and often it is mistaken for possible beginning of PRA. I had a bitch like that and so was her son. You need a good eye specialist that understands and knows the breed. So, yes, that is good news for your boy….. especially seeing there is PRA in his pedigree (and my bitch & her son carried some of the same dogs in their pedigree so I am quite familar with the bloodlines)

We had a couple people killed on our base last month, they were taking down an antenna that was approx 100 ft from a high power line, it did not come any where near the line, but an arc of electricity from the line struck the antena as they were taking it down and killed them. I would stay away from all power lines.

One thing you can do to help his coat is to bathe him every 1-2 weeks with Murphy's Oil Soap. Use your fingers and gently "scrub" him while he is soaped up. (Murphy's does not produce much lather so don't expect it.) The massaging will loosen dead hair and help it fall out. This stimulates new hair to grow. Murphy's has natural oils including coconut that help moisten the skin and keep it healthy.

I would take him to an opthalmologist for an exam though because there are lots of thing that it could be besides this. He could also be having really bad allergies that is causing inflamation of his eyes. Jennifer

I was only recommending a shampoo to use in the future, not one that would clear up any skin problems. If the dog has allergies, she needs to be careful about what kind of general shampoo to use. Jennifer

@ohbassit: Heya Buddys pal, The day after i posted the picture of her little lump it turned black and fell right off. Actually i am not sure when it fell off i just knew it wasn't there. The bump underneith also slowly went away. We have her penciled in for a vet visit this weekend so i will let you know what they say. Thanks for the concern!
