RE: FOUND-FL-Orlando-Tan Male-Possible Basenji-On Craigslist
I referred her on to the local lost pet site which will send a mass email out as well as post the dog on their Facebook page. She says she has fliers up but no calls yet. She also currently has 4 dogs of her own so she's hoping to find his family.

RE: FOUND-FL-Orlando-Tan Male-Possible Basenji-On Craigslist
This is the picture she sent me of the dog. Doesn't look like a basenji to me. I'm not sure where to direct her from here.

RE: FOUND-FL-Orlando-Tan Male-Possible Basenji-On Craigslist
I sent an email asking for a picture. I'm familiar with the area described and would be able to check him out. If he is a basenji please direct me what to do from there.
Thanks

RE: How do you know when it's time to let them go?
Sorry to hear this. It is so hard to say goodbye. He lived a long life and is now at the Rainbow Bridge running with many of his kind. I'm sure my sweet Tia was there to welcome him.

RE: FL-Miami-Possible PB Tri Male in Shelter-Found as Stray
Any news on this guy yet? I've posted this on the BRAT Facebook page for some additional exposure.

RE: URGENT-FL-Tavares-8 Month Old Male Basenji/Whippet Mix-In Shelter
I'm sure this has already been forwarded to basenjirescue.org but I sent it again just in case as well as posted this on their Facebook page. Hopefully someone can help this guy out. I can help with transport if needed.

RE: Bringing home our new girl
My 15mo (Aaliyah) was litter trained. I had no problem transitioning her to outdoors. I initially had 2 litter boxes set up - 1 upstairs (in an xpen with her crate) and 1 downstairs. Almost immediately she preferred to go outside - only ever pooped in the house (in the litter box) once. So I removed the one downstairs and kept the one upstairs until she now longer used it (around 6 mo). There was no confusion at all about going outside - when she was out, she went - especially if on a walk - because of the excitement.
I'm in Maine - so it was cold and snowy when she first came home - really, really snowy last winter. She loved being outside and was always the last one to want to come in. I actually credit her not having any care about weather (snow or rain) because she started playing outside at 12 weeks. To this day even if it is pouring she doesn't put up a fuss about going out and is actually excited - unlike my other 2 who go out begrudgingly.
Oh, and I used Equine Pine pellets for the litter box. Same as Feline Pine, but can the Equine version can be purchased in 30lb bags at Tractor Supply for about $6 a bag.
Maggie is doing much better about going outside. She's using her litter box less and less. We had a ton of rain last night into this morning however, which caused her to use her little box this morning. By the afternoon we had her back outside. She's basically refusing to go out in the rain and stands in the yard with one leg up if it is even a little bit moist. We are using corn cob bedding as she was the only one in the litter who had a reaction to the pine bedding. I guess I'll keep the litter box around for rainy days.

RE: Bringing home our new girl
Hi Linda, We meet up at West Park in Tampa (search Hillsborough County Parks) on Sunday's from 11 till about 2, depending on weather. Would love to have you join us when you are in the Tampa area. I can give you directions if you need, just let me know.
Anne in TampaAnne,
Have you guys been meeting for many years? We met up with a group probably 8 or so years ago with our red and white, Tia. I had just had my first baby so I had him with me and my parents as well. I have pictures of Tia playing with a large group of basenjis and I know the pictures are from Tampa. We also met up with some at Davis Island. I remember an older tri (I think) named Nikki. Is that you by chance??

RE: Bringing home our new girl
And so your little girl is related to a few here on the Forum. My Franie is a Grandaughter of C-Quest's Just Push Play (Player) and your baby's Grandmom is also Player's Mom.
And "Capt Jack our Basenji" now in Hawaii has a Player son.
How cool is that?? I was happy to find this forum but I had no idea I'd find relatives too!!

Maggie's mom is Ch Reveille Solo Pilot (she's in one of the pictures I posted). Her dad is Clear N Present Danger (first litter for both dogs).

RE: Bringing home our new girl
Pat,
We got her from Damara Bolte of Reveille Kennels. It is the same kennel we purchased our first basenji girl from over 10 years ago (we were living in Virginia at the time). It was really neat to go back after such a long time and see Damara again and all her basenjis.

RE: Bringing home our new girl
Maggie has been home for 1 week. Going from a 10 year old basenji to a 3 month old has been entertaining and challenging. Maggie was born in Virginia and because of all the snow they had she has been litter box trained. We are working hard to transition her out to the yard. She was doing very well but has backtracked the last couple of days. We had a lot of rain and I'm hoping she just doesn't like the wet yard. She's taken to our 3 kids as she has constant entertainment. She's sleeping well at night in her crate which we are very pleased about. All is all it's going very well. Once we get all her shots it's off to puppy class in hopes of training her to walk and run on leash.
I've posted some pictures …

RE: Bringing home our new girl
We are in Orlando but have family in Tampa. I was just there last weekend for the Gasparilla 1/2 marathon. Where do you meet? I'll be sure to let you know the next time we are in town.
Thanks

Bringing home our new girl
We lost our 10 year old red and white basenji girl in January to cancer. We contacted our breeder to let her know what happened and to also be put on the list for her next litter. She sent us a picture of a brindle girl available from a Dec. 12th litter. Needless to say we fell in love instantly and we will be picking her up this weekend. I'm happy to have found this forum as I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions about starting over with a puppy.
