RE: Sweet dreams, wild thing.
I must remember to cherish the times together, good & bad.

RE: Maca and Laika on her bed
I can relate
They look so innocent (when they need to).

RE: Meet Dharma
Well, after week 5 of getting used to her new surroundings, she has relaxed a little more. She is still a bit wary of us and will walk or run away when approached (unless there is food involved). However, if we are sitting she will approach us. We think she really never had any contact with people until she was rescued from the rest area, if she did it wasn't anything positive. The great thing is that she and Biko are getting along famously! They have their play times, there haven't been any food fights and occasionally they will snuggle up together. There is still a lot more work to do - more reassuring, reinforcement, socializing, etc. but I think she will eventually come out of her shell.
Oh, and that droopy tail seen in the previous photos has been replaced by a nice tightly curled one.

A few more photos & day #4 success.

She's come a long way since last friday afternoon.
Now if she could just figure out the pet door, (to her credit it has been cold, wet and nasty recently).

RE: Meet Dharma
Day 2 and things are getting better. She is more relaxed around us and exploring more- still a bit spooked at unfamiliar sounds. She seems so timid and jumpy at times it's hard to imagine what her past was like.
The skirmishes I mentioned were more of Biko getting snarky rather than fights as Mac Pack said; no biting, just a show of teeth, hackles and vocalizing. Today they were able to pass each other without any drama. She even tried to initiate play, but unfortunately Biko just watched. -
Meet Dharma
Formerly Dara, a rescue from BRAT - http://www.basenjirescue.org/DOGS/TX/TX-Dara.asp
Since October after losing our oldest we have been looking for a "buddy" for Biko (see http://www.basenjiforums.com/showthread.php?14168-What-Biko-did-on-our-China-vacation)
Still a lot skittish and hasn't really got the dog door down yet. Biko doesn't know what to think about her yet - only one big skirmish and a few small ones. This may take some time. Still, after only a day she's starting to relax a little. More pics once the camera charges up.

RE: What Biko did on our China vacation
My parents were looking after him while we were gone - feeding, spending time with, etc. for a few hours a day. They had cleaned up a bit. All of the debris was apparently spread throughout the house. This took him only 2 days to complete. Afterward, he was sentenced to kitchen confinement.

What Biko did on our China vacation
After 2 weeks in China we came home to this "redecoration". It was the first time he had been alone for that long since we lost our oldest B.

RE: I can't stop this feeling!!!!
It's easier the second time around. The little one will be preoccupied with her older playmate. Plus you'll know what to expect.

RE: Dog Attack
Similar thing happened to me a few years ago - pit bull and another medium sized mix. Luckily someone helped intervene (I suspect it was the pits' owner) after they heard the ruckus. Now I don't leave home without a can of mace. Only had to use it once and it works very well.

Hilarious! I guess a warm spot is a warm spot wherever you can find it.

RE: Subcutaneous fluid therapy
Thanks to everyone for the info. Trixie actually had her first at-home treatment on Sunday. She's a really good patient (except for nail trims). Currently using a heating pad for warming, microwaves are out since the bag has a metal ring. I'll have to dig through the records for the values later.
O.K., looking over the most recent test:
BUN = 84mg/dL (down from 104)
CREA = 3.9mg/dL (down from 5.1)These were taken after her 2 day stay with a continuous I.V. drip. Still on the high side, but luckily she still has her normal appetite and energy level. She is also on the Hill's k/d diet.

RE: Subcutaneous fluid therapy
Tanza, thank you for the info. Even the vet commented that she was the healthiest looking "sick" dog she's seen - appetite and energy level for a 15+ y.o..
Great looking "B's" you have there.
