My Jesse is 6.5 years old. This happens to him in the car without the drool - just a very uneasy look on his face. I have assumed it is car sickness. It seems like he is throwing up and swallowing until we reach a speed of 65 or above and maintain that. Then he lays down and relaxes. If we leave the windows open a small amount so that air is blowing his way until we reach the higher speed he seems a bit better.

My boy had a reaction 2 months after his 3 year rabies at the same age. It was a almost fist size scabby area on his back a bit to the side of where he got the shot. The vet called it a hot spot and prescribed Quadritop Ointment. This cleared it up pretty quickly and his hair grew back where it had fallen out. At his most recent shot in August this year I was given a homeopathic medicine to give to him for five days after the shot and so far no reaction.

Our boy is 8 years old and has never stayed with anyone outside of a family member and that was only twice. We moved from IL to AZ 4 years ago and now find ourselves needing to go back to the Midwest this summer for our son's wedding. There seem to be a lot of people out here who will take dogs into their homes, but that is not an option for us since our boy is very wary of other dogs. I considered having someone stay in our home but have read too many stories of dogs getting out and those aren't even this breed. He rode secured in the car with us when we moved here so we have decided we will be driving and he will be coming with us. Might not be a helpful answer but we decided we would not be able to really enjoy ourselves worrying about him and our son is delighted to be able to see him.

I have to say that my boy is uncomfortable with any door that is closed. Even if we are outside together, which he loves and the door is closed he repeatedly asks to go back in just to ask to come back out in less than a minute. He is a lucky boy in that we are retired and almost always one of us is home so he only spends time in the crate if we go out together and four hours is our max time of leaving him alone in the crate. I have always believed that he is cooperative with this situation due to a cheese bribe going in and the trust that he knows we will not be gone long.

Since we are in Tucson, AZ the boundaries are pretty clear this time of the year. It is the pavement more than the air temp that dictates what is too hot. Due to having a history of bladder stones I need to make sure he has extra opportunities to pee so other than early am and after sunset I go barefoot and know right away if it is too hot. During other times of the year, if he is too hot I will notice that he tends to sit down when we are under a tree so I know he is instinctively taking a break in the cooler spot. When this happens more than once I just shorten the walk. However, regardless of how hot the pavement is around the pool he will lay around out there for an hour before asking to go in to cool off!
