yep, i give water bottled to my girls, but sometimes i think is a bad thing because they dont make the way to reaction to parasites, but well sometimes before i get noticed they drink dirty water.. here is very hot and we have plenty of lepto, salmonella, hartworm and such other bugs, so i give my girls every vaccine avaliable..and giving the heartguard and still get Maca infected with that worm :-( well i stop some months.. my fault, now i give everymonth. she is fine. In few months will make new x ray of maca cheast to check her hart and new blood panel..

I REALLY wanted the plaque vaccine to pan out. When it came out, my vets (who are cautious) said to wait a couple of years. Well, it has been found safe, but they discontinued it as it doesn't work. I really need a miracle. Though the truth is, she is good about it now and heck, I spent more time grooming the chow 2x a week than I do brushing her teeth every night. I still have to get them cleaned every 3 mos though. My vet recommended trying a water pik. ROFLMAO, me and what army? Sigh. So we just keep getting them cleaned. Farley Mowat recounted in his book, "Never Cry Wolf" that when he "marked" the territory around his tent, the male wolf in the area respected his marking, but the wolf also marked the same places from the other side, not intruding on his space. So that method could backfire if the dog decided he had to reciprocate. Reminds me of a cartoon where a man catches his dog lifting his leg on the couch, takes him outside and demonstrates how to pee on a tree, whereupon the dog, back inside, stands on his hind legs and pees on the couch. Funny! :)

I shall do ! Currently she is still lactating, still moody, still my favourite puppy in the world :) Her appetite has been slightly more irregular, but she is still eating and drinking to my comfort. Not much to report thus far, we have one more week before the vet wants us back.

I am glad you went to a legitimate site to share more facts to consider. Though, I gave out the information as a reply to a thread only to assume that any person reading it was intelligent and would be able to make a decision to pursue or not to pursue more facts. I was not upset nor do I have to ask myself if it is more important for the dog's safety, that would be for the informed person to pursue or even ask a Veterinarian which you and I are not. We are just sharing OPINIONS and experience on this forum. PS: I only get upset at people who breed more dogs than the world needs and then admits to being part of a rescue(for 30 years), which are quite contradictory actually…...The big picture is out of focus.......

you got me searching through some old crufts catalogues for the 1950s, and the Andersons were just about the only scottish based exhibitors - could she perhaps just have had dogs from them? The seemed to have moved about quite a bit in the 50s thru north England/Scotland, and back in those days the bred prolifically so there would be lots of basenjis out there.. Will be really interesing to find out who she is and who the dogs were - keep us informed!

I've never had problems with the Basenjis related to chocolate but of course I don't ever give it to them. However they have stolen the occasional chocolate item but thankfully with no effects. It always gives me a great deal of worry though when this happens. This is a very interesting chart.

Lauren, I would contact Robyn/Yodel Dogs, to see if there is a match there? I don't think Robyn is willing to ship her dogs, and I totally understand why, but perhaps you know of a solution? The other thought would be the Wimauma pack, perhaps contacting Pam Hamilton directly? Sometimes, applications get lost on servers… I wish your parents well! :)

Karen at Medfly stays in contact with people who adopt from Medfly and gives guidance after they take their Basenji home. She's just like a breeder and you sign a contract. If it doesn't work the Basenji goes back to her. You can call her anytime after you adopt as she has a lot of experience with all kinds of Basenjis from the very difficult to the easy ones.

I give my bitches 'Hormonise' from www.animal-health.co.uk before, during, and after their seasons. It solves most of the 'bitchy' problems. It is herbal and was originally developed for mares in season, I have used it to good effect for many years.
