Why have the thyroid checked if they bite?
Bisa who will be 4 yrs old Christmas Day will growl, raise those hairs along her back, and show her teeth; sometimes tho she just 'goes after' whoever/whatever is irking her if they move too fast [ie: the GKs are playing with each and get too close to where she is laying].
Bisa liked our oldest son's mini beagle when Ginger was alive; got along great BUT she does NOT like the full bred AKC Australian Shepard pup they now have [now 8 mos old and she still goes after it!].
Bisa also growls and snaps at our grandkids [also see note above]. She has always been like this but it seems to be getting worse, hence my interest in doggie daycare and the suggestion of the thyroid being tested.

Looking at doggie daycareWe board Bisa at the vets' office we take her to; began going to a new one recently due to being more convenient for me and has been an excellent place for her. Now looking at doggie daycare to socialize Bisa with other dogs/people. Went to a place recently to talk to the owner of it/the kennel/grooming shop she runs but haven't heard back from her after I called the other day. Was to take Bisa next week …

Can't help but love me!Bisa LOVES to cuddle underneath a blanket! She will paw the threads out of one to get under it with you! LOL

Another basenji slave in western PAI know of a couple in Emlenton who have a Basenji [sadly the oldest passed away recently]. We had a good time swapping 'unique' stories last time I saw them at their business. :p)

Cold feetWhat pretty dogs … and LOVE the collars they wear!

RE: Where is That Dog?Bisa does that too … LOVES the crook of my legs when I lay on my side!

Rescue needs homeI wanted to get Roo but I have a couple family members that have been ill and don't want to have to board a newly arrived furry friend. So … we will wait to adopt again.

The Toilet Paper ThiefOh yeah … forgot the one where she will get the food off the counter or table if she can!
-
The Toilet Paper ThiefYes … toilet paper, used kleenix out of the baskets, towels and underwear on the cellar floor near the washer as you sort through your laundry, tries to run with a blanket she wants ... Yep ... Bisa is one of those mischievous ones too! LOL

Help me id my new petDoes Toby have any Basenji qualities, like liking toilet paper, barooing, meowing, etc.? We had a JRT / Basenji mix [Sakari] before getting Bisa and Sakari had a lot of the Basenji characteristics like that. That's what made us fall in love with the breed.

Another basenji slave in western PAYes! a very small world! :)
Aaaah … Rt. 58 W ... yes a nice relaxing drive along it!
I go to Franklin a lot ... love the Liberty Street antique shop! Can't think of the name of the restaurant on Liberty Street ... but the spaghetti is sure fantastic! :) Also like the French Creek Cafe.
Yes, it IS a very beautiful drive along the back roads. I love going either 308 N to the Rt. 8N exit to Franklin as well as 38N to Rockland and up to 322 W to get there too. I'm not much for one to be on heavily traveled roads or interstates but do when I need to.
Have you been to Foxburg lately? If not, stop in and eat at the pizza shop; tell Georgine and Steve that "Marsha" sent ya! <g>I miss the specialty made hot teas and missed being able to eat breakfast at Divani Chocolates; I'll have to stop in their Franklin shop next time I'm up there.</g>

Thinking about adding to the familyWe too want to adopt another Basenji at this time. Bisa, formerly Lucy from Rugosa Basenji's in OH, is now 3 yrs old.
We have had three dogs [different mixed breeds] before in our home and LOVED it!
Just be sure you are up to the work involved in having more than one!!!! :)

I have dog allergies, but want a Basenji!I have to agree with Ivoss. Very good advice given there!
Altho I have adult-onset chronic asthma as of 1986 [strangely, even tho I can still have attacks, it is getting better under control as I get older!] I have still been able to have dogs since the dx. We have had a couple cats before too but that didn't turn out very good. But this, plus our GKs having allergies/asthma, is the reason we went with the Basenji … less irritants.
If Bisa is in need of a bath, my asthma can act up some, but it isn't to the point I am having a horrible attack. Never did with any dog we had. -
Another basenji slave in western PAWe live in W PA also, Eau Claire. A small local newspaper / printer office near us … I was surprised when I learned recently the owners had two basenji's; but they just had to put down the older one [due to very bad old age health issues].
I drive by Jeannette 2x a year on the way to my neurologist's office in Greensburg so I know the whereabouts of the town you live in. -
Added a few photos of BisaI just added a few pics of Bisa listening to Basenji sounds on the 'net. :) Check my album out!
