Sweet trick! The only trick I can add is that we sometimes rub a dryer sheet on my furbabies backs so that we won't static shock them in the wintertime.

I used to use the basic $20 dremel from Walmart. I think pedipaws can be really slow and takes a lot of time. I switched to a dremel that plugs into the wall at my shop because the rechargeable dremel battery will only last about 3 months, (but that is filing about 6 dogs nails a day). Just my 2 cents.

Also, I have a Labradoodle who has issues walking on tile or slick surfaces due to his previous owners abuse (They physically kicked him if he entered their kitchen) So he is terrified about walking on cold smooth surfaces. he has been wearing his RIE adventure dog boots for about a year, anytime we go to a pet store/ vet/ rough hike he wears them, twe don't seem to have an issue with them sliding off. http://www.rei.com/product/767904/rei-adventure-dog-boots

PS about the booties, he does wear baby sock under them. Just regular baby socks, it helps with the stinky dog foot smell he gets from wearing them.

I use Martha Stewart's hypoallergenic Lanolin Puppy Shampoo. It kinda has an herbal smell, but it's gentle and leave his coat so shiny! You could also use a brightening shampoo if you have a black and white, the shampoos are usually dark blue, the darker the color , the better shine.

I'm a professional dog groomer, and though my basenji's tail isn't bushy I can give you 2 different options. 1. Go to a petsmart and get a pair of Martha Stewart Thinning Shears, essentially you will just scissor repeatedly in the same spot until all the hair is uniformly trimmed, (You can use a pair of small straight or curved shears, but it would be blunt and to unnatural looking). Or 2. go to a reputable groomer, get your baby a lovely bath, and ask her to do the trimming, if the groomer wants to shave it, tell her to do it with a "3 blade" or "5/8ths blade". that would leave the hair longer and not shaved looking.

I see that the word kong is thrown around as a term for a hard rubber toy with a hole for treats. Maybe it was some generic off brand toy with one hole. I do not think that kongs can create a suction, unless that treat spray solidified onto the small hole and got stuck. I'm not even sure that's possible. I have a couple of kongs, and have never had an issue.

Hi everyone! My 5 month old Basenji puppy has recently gotten little bumps and flaky skin inside his ears. it's very dry and you can just scrape some off with your nail, (gross I know). It doesn't bleed, it almost looks like if your skin was peeling after a sunburn, but more dry. I'm wondering it he had an allergic reaction to something or if any of you have had something similar? He will be going to the vet within a week, but I just wanted some peace of mind. Thanks.

Do you express them yourself? I'm assuming if you do, it's externally. You should see a vet, excessive scooting might mean your dog's gland are impacted. Or they might need a more thorough, ahem, internally expression.

I haven't had my basenji long enough to see him in action eating all the "decorations" in the Fall, but my lab mix use to get diarrhea from eating them, finally i made the connection with acorns… anyways you might just have to rake rake rake!
