Thanks Everyone
Dog had tested negative for giardia initially but second fecal test was positive. She is now eating again, has energy and no diarrhea. We had to go to a specialist as intestines were very inflamed. Lack of appetite; chronic diarrhea ie malnutrition caused all of the blood issues. It’s finally under control. B12 shots weekly and a follow up fecal exam are next on the list to keep our girl on the mend.

RE: Basenji puppy with Low Albumin
The breeder has no idea. She was actually very upset when I gave her this news and even offered to pay for a specialist. Her general vet has no idea other than the results show poor liver function. She suspects something genetic but again she is speculating. We’re heading to specialist tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone had encountered anything like this. We re hoping for the best.

Yes her breeder was great and covered vet costs. She is doing much better. She also checked all remaining puppies and notified the others who had bought from the litter

Training Pup with IBD
Hey everyone,
My 8 month old girl had a rough start but was finally diagnosed with IBD. We have it under control with very limited diet and meds. My question is , she caught on to pooping outside very easily and stands by the door and scratches when she has to go. Peeing has been a challenge. She has found she prefers my hallway to outside. I will take her out every hour and she comes in and pees. Any ideas that worked for training? Most books and videos use food as the treat/motivator but that’s not an option with her restricted diet. I work from home so she’s not alone and I can take her out frequently . When she does go outside I make a big deal lots of petting and praise. Any better ideas for rewards? Clearly my kind words are not cutting the mustard. -

Basenji puppy with Low Albumin
I just adopted a 9 week old basenji and she is experiencing diarrhea for 8 days. They have ruled out heart worms and parasites. After bloodwork vet is now thinking liver issues. Anyone have issues like this in such a young dog?
