My guy gets into "lickfest" mode from time to time. I find I can often distract him, or failing that just tell him to quit it. Sometimes I offer my hand and he licks that for awhile. In the fall, I find he is itchy much of the time, which results in more licking, groom biting, and scratching than at other times of the year. If he gets too insistent, I will put an Elizabethan collar on him for a bit, or sometimes just showing him the collar and threatening him with it will get him to cease and desist! 🙂

Seems the Saturday morning meetings are still happening! We went this morning and met 5 other Basenjis, which was really wonderful.

Sabocat, Laskiblue, if you can make it to Laurel Canyon dog park on a Saturday morning, let me know! It'd be great to meet!

Haha my Basenji is Anubis too! Hes 5yrs old on the 15th.

How great! I was fascinated by Ancient Egypt when I was little and always thought if I ever had a dog, I'd call it Anubis. When I discovered an African breed who just looked like Anubis, I thought it was a sign! And it must have been, because my little Basenji was definitely the girl for me 🙂
