Princess Sophie Cat & Good Ol' Stick

  • Hello to all!

We (Audrey and Conal) are the proud owners of two Basenjis. So of course we have to show them off!!

Sophie is the older one. We think that she is about four-and-a-half years old. We rescued her from a shelter and are not sure how old she is. We have had her for a year-and-a-half, and she has been a WHOLE lot of trouble! :D We are so proud of how far she has come though. We cannot imagine life without her.

Stick is our new addition. He is about 10 months old. Stick is also a rescue that we got from a shelter in Queens, NY. Funny story, after we got him we met (Capt) Jack at the dog park and found out that he was up for adoption in our hometown!! Luckily he was rescued by a couple that cares for him a lot, and we got to rescue Stick and bring him into our family.

These two dogs are so different from each other. We love them both.

    ;)

  • Welcome! I'm new here, too!

  • Your babies are sooo cute. Their pics made me smile. I especially like the one with the paper all over your sofa…LOL...Our Jojo is also a rescue (from BRAT).

  • Your babies are so pretty, I have one red & white, Sahara. She is 13 mos. on the 2nd. of March. How do you like having 2 B's, I am thinking of getting another puppy. Are they a handful? Welcome to the forum, you will love this site!!!!

  • Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em! Oh, did I mention, I love 'em?!? :D

    So angelic (while at rest).

  • welcome, you have pretty bs. is that as close as they want to get to the water?

  • Funny story, after we got him we met (Capt) Jack at the dog park and >>found out that he was up for adoption in our hometown!! Luckily he was >>rescued by a couple that cares for him a lot

Is this the same Cap'n Jack that is on our forum?

  • Jazzysmom -

yes it is the same Jack. We found this forum after coming across videos that Kira posted of Jack. :)

Ambered - Sophie has been swiming once. Not the swimming part, but that is part of a nearly tragic story we are gonna share soon. Just takes a bit to find the time to write it up.

I don't think stick has been into the water; come this summer we will introduce him to it though.

Angelic (even at rest) ???? - do you even own a b???? ;) thats just when they are plotting.

  • They are both BarOOOOOOTIFL :D :D :D & welcome to you all!!! I'm from the area in NJ so if you ever want to have a B SUMMIT :) let me know!

  • figured that I'd share a video of them playing as well. Can you tell which is the puppy?? :)

  • fun video! makes me want to have two! yikes! my hubby would not be happy!!!!

  • Welcome and very nice B's!

  • welcome! beautiful dogs! and I LOVED the video!

  • Great video! I watch that every morning.

  • Thanks for sharing pics & video. Loved it!

  • Love your video. It makes me kind of sad that we cannot have another B for our Champ. I know he would absolutly love the company and the playmate. So that's the nipping he's been craving for. My poor little fellow dosen't understand why his human family dosen't play the way he's suppose to play. Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your beautiful B's.

@iris-shuman said in I would like you to meet "The 'Marvel'-ous Prince T'Challah" a/k/a Prince: Iris was born in December too Not much of a surprise when you think about it ! Basenjis in the Northern Hemisphere come in to season through September/October/November and whelp their litters November/December/January. A great many litters' arrivals cause the turkey to be put back in the oven on Christmas Day while the puppies are delivered ! Decrease the size of the photo and you will be able to show Iris to all of us. And do as Tanza suggests to Daureen - get her Fanconi tested.

He is so cute. His coloring really is beautiful and obviously he is very smart - digging a cool hole to lie in is one of those things that just makes all the sense in the world!

Ono is a Hawaiian word, used to describe something that is 'the best' AND happens to be very basenji appropriate :) We hesitated naming her something that so strongly resembled 'no' but we don't use 'no' very much in our training, we say 'hey' to get their attention and then give them another cue to follow when we are redirecting their behaviour. The pups love the huge costco bed, and I love the great cedar smell :)

This probably won't help, but Deke is really short for Zindeku it means "protective charm" in swahili. Thats not his registered name. His name describes his personallity now, but not when he was a puppy. He grew into it.
