• Thanks everyone, we did rescue Scarlett through BRAT. When we got her she and Baron got along very well.

She had some issues before we had adopted her with growths inside of her mouth on her gums, and before we got her she had oral surgery under her previous fosters care.

About four months into our adoption she started to develop the growths again, so we took her to the vet and they decided that removal of her tooth would hopefully solve the problem for good. After she had surgery her and Baron never got along, she was real grouchy and just wanted to be left alone.

Since we have found her a new home we have gone and visited her and she seams very happy. She remembered us right away which was amazing, I wish we could have kept her because she was an angel! Perfect Basenji, not house destructive, potty trained, listened better than Baron and we were able to teach her how to shake and speak while we had her in the six months. I've been trying to get Baron to speak for almost three years!

He can sit, lay down, shake, and rollover but he will NOT speak.

any who here's a pic of our carved pumpkins from this year lit up, thanks for all the kind words.

  • Hi Phil (and Lisa),
Welcome to the forum! There are quite a few basenji lovers on here from Illinois, so this is a great place to expand your basenji community.
While it is sad that Baron and Scarlett didn't see eye-to-eye, the good news is that you've unwittingly expanded your family :), as I'm sure Scarlett's new family has added comfort to you! Isn't it amazing that she still remembers you? You guys will always hold a sweet spot in her heart, trust me. πŸ™‚
Looking forward to stories and roos from you!

  • Great pics and welcome to the forum. What is Baron's registered name? We like to know who we're related to via our dogs. It's like some sort of crazy family reunion. But it's kinda fun.

Sounds like Scarlett has a wonderful new family. Sometimes dogs are meant to stay with us, sometimes we are just a way to get them to where they are supposed to be.

  • She was probably in pain for awhile and that would explain being grouchy. You did your best to help her and she's doing great now. Anyway great to have you on the forum! We love pics so keep em coming.

I'm not quite sure I understand what your asking me?

If he is registered with the AKC? If so the answer is no.

  • Welcome to the forum! Baron is very handsome! I'm sorry it didn't work out with the foster, but I think she found a great home after all πŸ™‚ Are you still looking to add another B to the family?
