We have not continued the nightly raw although both get raw bones/meat every so often.
Introducing Miss Nayru
-
LOL. Debra, I thought I was losing MY mind because I thought you'd said something here. Grin. She's my beauty alright.
-
Just a quick update on Miss Nayru. Finally did the monthly strip test (kept forgetting to grab a strip). She's negative at this point. I'll be doing a DNA on her as soon as I get $65 ahead. It's important to me. My neighbors are probably going to video and YouTube me trying to get her to pee while I chase her moving butt with a test strip though. LOL
She's settling in beautifully. I can't remember not having her warm butt crowding me over the edge of the bed. It's like I've always had to hang off the edge.
She and Batman do very well as well. They have their moments where Batman is a 6 month old obnoxious brat and Nayru had to pull out her impression of a snarking 5th grade math teacher. She takes Batty to school and he subsides–for that fifteen minutes. She will play with him when she's ready though. He just has to learn to respect her down times.

It's good to hear how Miss Nayru and Batman are doing.
If you think about it you spend life hanging off the edge when you have a Basenji -

Short tale of a tortured B.
I was in the shower. N and B were running the apartment and playing. All of a sudden I hear N screaming. I mean in only the way a Basenji can scream. I nearly kill myself getting out of the shower. Wrapped in a towel with cream rinse dripping in my eye, I race to my bedroom.
Nayru is on my bed with one back leg in the air. I think she's broken her toe, her leg, her entire body. Panicked, I hugged her to me.
Then I saw it.
It was awful.
It was hideous.
It was a horrific nightmare.
Seems some little Basenji had been trying to mess with the blinds and the blind cord had gotten caught around her back foot. Not tied. Not tight even. Just looped right above the ankle where it wouldn't slide off easily.
:|
I removed the offending Basenji-eating cord. She nearly climbed my head she was so happy to be free. Batman then bit her on the butt and they ran off down the hall.
I love dogs. I really really do. I didn't laugh until I was back in the shower. Do I get a gold star?
-
What a funny story! Yes, you get two shiny stars!
-
:D:D:D I can just imagine it
-
She keeps me entertained. Between Batman and Nayru and FlynnKitty, I almost always have a smile on my face…
Right after that "NO" or "DROP IT" or "DON'T CLAW THAT".
-
ha! love it!

Just a silly video of Nayru and Batman. Make sure your sound is down. I think I’m a bit loud in this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1Zx0cPSt5U
-
LOL, my sound is way down always and I could hear you and your southern accent just fine
I love the wagging donuts!
-
Yep, I had the camera right at my face and was doing my DOGGIE voice. I sound like a dork. LOL
-
Not "a boring video" at all - they are the cutest pair!

Just an update to let you know that Nayru and Batman are still as silly as ever. We've added a kitten to the mix. Boy howdy, was that ever challenging. Miss Nayru, who never showed ANY prey drive towards my rock-solid dog-proof 14 yr old Maine Coon, was HIGHLY interested in the fast moving, tiny orange thing. We had about 6 weeks of separation then 2 weeks of highly supervised visitation and then a month of 'okay you two play nice now'. But Vinegar now knows not to run and Nayru now knows that the small fuzzy orange thing has incredibly sharp pointy things on her feet. I have caught them sleeping together. Currently I'm fostering a B.R.A.T boy named Toby. He's reminding me why I like adopting older dogs.

Great to get an update, live the name vinegar… I like names that catch you off guard! Hope your busy uploading pictures to go with your update!

I can't believe it's been over two years since Nayru came into my life. She's had a few merry adventures involving the front door and FREEDOM. I was walking the foster dog (last spring) and all of a sudden there was Nayru running up to us. :| I sat down and she came right up to me so I was able to snag her. Another time I didn't quite get the door closed, but she came hauling back in when I said, "Batman, treat?" Her native Basenji jealousy was immediately engaged. Still feel like I narrowly dodged bullets both times. I live in a gated community but a savvy B could waltz out easily when cars are coming in or out.
But life with Nayru continues to engage me and keep my mind active. I've noticed a change in her personality too. She's just more settled somehow. As if she knows that this really is her forever home. Took about 18 months for that to really sink in for her, I think.
Now she's a fairly normal B girl who steals tortillas off the counter and then looks completely innocent when caught with half a flour disk hanging out of her mouth. LOL
-
You need to get a picture of the tortilla in her mouth!
