  • It's the 1st September and as usual Cooper thinks Winter is upon us !!!!

Ok it's a little colder, not much mind you, the sun is still shining, but not in the world of Coop !!!! I will not give in to emotional blackmail….............I will not put the heating on...............I won't................don't care what faces you pull............................I won't...............don't start putting the shakes on either.......................Oh for pities sake.......................only for a minute then...................................

Gold Star for Cooper, the Basenji strikes again !!!!!!!:D:D:D

  • Ha know the feeling:rolleyes: Belle has been giving me that look for the past few days as the temp has dropped a bit but not enough for me to put the heating on yet. She just gets her blanket put over her on the sofa:D

  • Yesterday in Vancouver, BC we had what amounted to a monsoon. I walked a half block at one point and looked like I had been in a long shower - just dripping wet. Our animals at home were most upset with the weather too. Barney (angel child cat) had the saddest look on his face. I opened the door for him and he just stood there, looked outside and then turned to look at me - a look of sadness and utter disgust. But today is better and he is out in the yard, protecting his property. Oh why don't I live in Hawaii?

  • @Kipawa:

Yesterday in Vancouver, BC we had what amounted to a monsoon.

It spent most of yesterday raining down here in Washington also. My wife had to chase my two down the steps first thing in the morning for them to go outside.

They gave me the "Yeah… not going to happen" look when I opened the door for them to go outside for our walk.

Wizard, thats pretty much what I was hoping to hear. In regards to training, I meant along the lines of enforcing good behavior, like sitting down to have his leash taken off or waiting for a release to eat, not digging at the furniture. Stuff like that. I don't expect my roommate to "obedience train" my pup. Overall I have a lot of trust in him, we have lived together for 3 years and been friends for the past 7 years. Even if he doesn't have a vested interest in the dog, he has a pretty vested interest in our friendship. Khani, I think Jean is in South Africa right now, and I would prefer to have him stay home if possible. It looks like everything will work out. Also, Both Jean and Kyle spoke Highly of you and your dogs. Thanks again for the advice everyone

@YodelDogs: If Chance continues his interest in mounting and sniffing Kiya's "female parts", there could be something else going on. It is not unusual for female pups to get puppy vaginitis. This ailment produces aromas that male dogs mistake for being in season. (People can't smell it.) Left untreated, the male dog will aggravate the female so much that fights can occur. I use an ecchinasea/goldenseal capsule daily, opened and mixed with something "smelly" to hide the bitter taste. The problem is always resolved within one week. I am not a veterinarian though so you should discuss this ailment when you take Kiya to your vet. And Robyn is right, this could be the problem also, however in knowing Chance and seeing his behavior with other dogs, I think much of this is that he is just very inmature for his age and never really learn "proper" play with other dogs… he is not aggressive to other dogs, he is just inappropriate with some of his antics.... Kiya, given the chance will put him in his place... but I would think this house is going to get really loud with Basenji sounds...

Hi there. At the moment I have a little girl. I'm considering getting her a brother or sister. There's no doubt I would go for another Basenji. Problem is, I don't want a new dog to teach her bad habits. My girl doesn' t know she can jump the back fence. She doesn't dig holes in the back lawn, only in the garden beds, which I 'm pretty sure she's running out of room to bury her treats. And she can be pretty smart when she wants to. Do I risk bringing a puppy into the family and my girl picking up bad puppy habits?

My Hollie girl eats from the bowl sometimes and sometimes she takes a few minutes to another room. She constantly "hides" her dogfood, in corners, under a doormat, under my bed pillows, etc. I don't know if this is something that all basenjis do, or if it is because she had been a stray when I adopted her. Either way, she is certainly entertaining.
