Sleepy boys

  • well i babysat for a friend of mine last night. i let the boys sleep in my bed, of course fender thought that means him too.
in case anyone wondered why i put up with mr mischef
he is a really sweet boy

  • Sooooo cute!!!!

  • That is so cool, those red cheeks on that little boy…...wow.:)

That is so adorable! I feel the same way about my pup!

  • bboy, i think he had previously been sleeping on his face!

when people talk about basenjis not being good with kids i just can never agree. some arent
but this is how i grew up and no matter where my kiddo crashes for the night he and fender insist on laying all over eachother :)

    :)

That pic of the three of them…....so cute.

If kids are taught how to live with and respect any dog, there shouldn't be a problem.

I know I can't sit or lay down anywhere without having them all wanting to be on me, or at least touching me.:)

It's one of the most appealing aspects of the Basenji for me.....that they love to be with you.

  • I agree Bboy, our Sahara is the same way, she has to touch you in some way. We love this about her, sometimes she will just reach out and touch your hand with her paw, just to make contact. I love this breed, I have never seen any other dogs do the same.

  • That 1st pic, with Fenders leg pushing himself into childs back? That is how Duke does it. If he's in between me & hubby, one of us gets the pokey paw in our back. Feels good if he pokes the right spot, like a mini-massage. These are real cute pics.

  • That is PLS ….or Pokey Leg Syndrome....it appears to be stronger in puppies, and the symptoms ease with age ;)

andrea, you are a hoot! that is funny.

i think fender is having a "sweet dream" in the 2nd one.

  • Love the picture. That is precious.

  • Our B has PLS for sure. Great pictures! Just too cute.

To those of you that are having problems with mouthing, holding the muzzle is not a good solution. Substitute a toy for your "body parts" or totally ignore the pup and the minute that the pup settles down, praise.

This is the doghouse we used for years for our outdoor Border Collie. I realize Alberta can be colder (although we have seen -30C at this location), but you are talking about daytime use, not overnight. We used straw for bedding, and when my dog emerged in the morning after a cold night, he was quite warm and the interior of the house was also (I checked). Sized and insulated correctly, this design will keep a dog warm. (you could obviously change the dimensions to allow for more insulation if necessary). The only caveat is, will he use it? My BC was happy to retire to his house for the night, but during the day tended to lie in the "porch" so he could see what was going on. Of course, much of the day he spent his time with me, so it was a non issue. (one addition…...we put a couple of cement blocks on the roof after it blew off one day in a windstorm!) http://www.kwhumane.com/uploads/Documents/Ideal_Doghouse.pdf

Tucker just hops on the bed and lies down beside us. We've gotten used to it and just ignore him… ;)

My dogs were very "clingy" when I was pregnant & the same with Tayda when she stayed with us one weekend. :)

And don't forget, now you have a second B in the house… and he will and can begin to think he needs to "guard" her... Aussie's are very intense... totally... just look at the picture you posted and the look in that dogs eyes... I also agree, you do not want to find out and yes, they can and would hurt other dogs....

sort of. The friend of mine who worked with the chimps said they were very poorly funded and were in need of a lot of things OSU wasn't able/willing to support anymore. It must have been horrible for her since that was her lifes work and I am sure they were her "babies"
