Help Make The Pedigree Database Complete

Basenji Talk

  • I would like to take a moment to urge everyone to go to Sally's Pedigree Database at http://pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com and see if your basenji(s) are listed. If they are missing please post the following information either in this thread or you can PM or email me the info so we can get it into the database.

    Sire's Registered Name
    Dam's Registered Name
    Date Of Birth
    Registration Number
    Registered Name
    Color
    Sex

This is an invaluable resource for the basenji community and we are so lucky that Sally makes this wonderful resource free for all to use but it relies on all of us to submit the data.

  • Great post Ivoss. I would like to add that if you do send info to Sally to please be patient that it can take a little bit of time to get it all updated.

And you can send in pictures of your dog also.

  • For sure… great post....

  • The database is a wonderful resourse and we are so lucky to have it.
My first Basenji was a rescue and Sally was able to give me his five generation pedigree.

  • Just want to echo what everyone else has said - great post Lisa.

The database is a wonderful resource and it is incomplete if your dog isn't listed in it. ;) It is wonderful that Sally has created and updates the database for the basenji community.

I agree 110%, love to go on there and just scout..Sally has done a wonderful job, not all easy either..if you have information that can help the database along, please send it forward to help the database, the breed's pedigree and all of us that loves to just look at pedigrees and pictures from way back when..
Thanks for giving it a heads up Lisa..

  • Perhaps we should have them add the breeder's name as well? I know it's not posted on the database itself but I believe Sally keeps records of it. It's another resource for rescue.

  • Sally has done a wonderful job in starting and keeping her database up to date.
and its especially helpful in tracing overseas registrations. I reiterate Ivoss' plea to send in your details.

Over the years I've kept my own handwritten details of UK Basenjis and find the website extremely helpful when updating it. Sally is wnderful!!

  • Having the breeder info is great and Sally does track it and it has helped to reunite dogs with their breeders when they have turned up in rescue. Also, if your dog was never registered it can still go in Sally's database. Just include as much information as you have.

  • @Nemo:

Perhaps we should have them add the breeder's name as well? I know it's not posted on the database itself but I believe Sally keeps records of it. It's another resource for rescue.

Often you should be able to tell the breeders name by the name of the dog because it is included in the dogs registered name. For my dogs name is "Maly Ksiaze Next Germanika," His breeder is Germanika kennels. His father is "Mutabaruga's Desmond Dekker" out of Mutabaruga kennels. His mother is "Art Of Noice Loango" out of Loango kennels.

So technically the breeders names are listed on the website. The only time you will not have breeders name listed is when they are BYBs, profit breeders, puppymills, opps litters out of those that may not fixed their registered dogs (not saying they are showing dogs), people who breed to "discover the miracle of life," and other things like that. Reputable breeders will REQUIRE that their kennel name is included in the dogs registration.

Thank you very much Pat ! It was a bit hair-raising. I wanted to be sure it was an easy transition so phoned the Server. The man I spoke to was adamant. No, I would not have to make any changes, yes Google would update it, yes everything would be easy. . . Why did I believe him ? First thing were all kinds of 'DANGER !' messages and emails from people who could not get to the site from Google. I managed to get to it in the end, but nothing worked - so I thought carefully and realised I needed to change links in all the scripts which run the program. There are dozens of them. Then I chickened out, didn't dare upload the new scripts so I called my computer guru who came over a couple of hours later, checked my work (and found a load more to do. . . ) and we opened a couple of cans of beer, held our breath and uploaded the scripts. Phew ! It all worked fine, but now how to get the change publicised - I don't do FaceBook. Luckily lots of helpful people are putting the new address about, and hopefully Google will find it soon.

I wish. Gypsy is getting old and having more problems – sometimes loses her balance, etc. -- and in response Jazzy is getting meaner to her. When the dogs are outside, Jazzy will wait on the porch for Gypsy. When Gypsy approaches the porch to come in, Jazz will run out growling and starting biting at her face. I've been able to curb it a little by letting Gypsy in, and then shutting the door and making Jazzy wait and sit before letting her in. Little things like that... Although other times she will curl up with Gypsy and sleepthere's never any kindness shown; Jazzy bosses her around more than ever, often even chasing Gypsy off of her bed so that Jazzy can lie down on it {I always make Jazzy get back off and let Gypsy back on}, even though Jazzy has a chair and her own bed. It makes me sad. Keoki on the other hand, seems quite oblivious and treats Gypsy the same as always. While those two never snuggle up, they are play-time buddies. Gypsy livens up a good bit when Keoki invites her to play.

I do now seeing what you say I do agree with a more verbal and/or stand up and as you say "higher dog" split them up. And I have seen this many times, where my boxer would do that at a dog park, he's such a dork lol, some dogs would start arguing and he'd go shoulder his way inbetween them and just stand there. I can also understand your point that there are a high number of boxers that don't get the clue and subtle hints, and part of it JMO is back to training. And the whacking them in the face, yep thats a boxer, lol. And I can understand that Basenjis don't like that. When we frst met our neighbor that had a Basenji, Reggie tried his normal "boxer" techniques (but thankfully he's not a face wacker) to get the B to play, pawing at him, low woofs, etc, since that didn't work he took the B's toy and stood there squeaking it at him and then took off in a game of chase, they were friends until we moved away.
