    Do you have Jubilee's parents' names? She is not in Sally's database so I cannot see her pedigree.

    I thought AT RISK, meant at risk of developing Fanconi, not ,"already having" Fanconi. I will let them know that they should test to make sure. If I were to breed Ayo it has to be with Dam that tests clear. I am sending her pedigree up to her great grand parents, the same I sent to Sally.

    I cant send the word file because it is 33k . Her parents names are Sire- Linders Sahara Sound Machine H03-ZA-DG-33838T and DAm -Linders PLaytime Patsy C02-AZ-DG-35847T . If you can give me your email I will gladly send you the rest.

    It means that she has genes for it but she may not yet be symptomatic. If the owners are not strip testing regularly she could be fairly far progressed in the disease before they notice what is usually the first outward symptom, increased thirst and urination. It is much better for the dog if onset of symptoms is caught early, such as when they first start spilling sugar, usually intermittently.

    Though there is a small chance she may not become symptomatic, many dogs who have tested Probably Affected have become symptomatic. I only know of 3 dogs who are over the age of 10 years, tested Probably Affected and are not symptomatic.

    I Just wanted to say thanks for all thehelp on this subejct. I sent all his info, pedigree and his parents pedigree to the AKC and they have sent me the application for registration. They said they checked and he is eligible for registration with the AKC. I am now filling out the application in order to send it! Thanks .

    Lisa Linder used to be a breeder of Basenjis and it is my understanding that she got out of the breed. She is USDA licensed and lives in Mt. Vernon, MO. She also uses the kennel name Mi Rosa although I do not believe she did for Basenjis.

    dmey, I just wanted to pop in and say how much I respect you for being so very tolerant and understanding throughout this thread. :)

    Thank you for taking all the posts to heart as people trying to help, not criticize, nor judge you or your beloved dog.

    I will do the Fanconi test, for my own peace of mind. When my Lucy died, it was so unexpected that I wonder if she had it; I got her from a young gal that bred her two basenjis, so I never knew her pedigree. I was surprised to see the AKC Registration numbers for both of Halo's parents, knowing that she came from a mill, and I went on AKCs web site to validate that the number is valid. I am also impressed that the basenji website even had little Halo recognized as a dog…. how did she do that? :)

    You can dual register him. Register him with AKC and then use the AKC registration to qualify for CKC registration.

    @gbroxon: It sounds like reputable breeders don't have to worry about this, Pat? As a reputable breeder will register the litter, and that would be caught(?) if a disreputable buyer tried to circumvent limited registration by going this route? This would help people that purchase a dog that "was" AKC but they (BYB's or Puppymillers) don't want to do the DNA AKC requirement or pay to register the litter. However, it bring up another point… just because a breeder "says" here is the pedigree, doesn't mean it really belongs to that dog. Of course that is one of the reasons that AKC started the required frequent sire requirement of DNA on file. And the reason that many BYB's and Puppymills then started their own "registries" If AKC were to say, OK you can register, but must be spay/neuters as it is with their PAL/ILP program (conditional registration) I would not have objections. I know of dogs registered and there is no way that the pedigee of that dog represents the sire and dam.

    One of the main reasons small operation breeders don't use AKC dogs is because a breeder sold them a dog under an AKC limited registration, meaning the dog wasn't intended to be breeding stock, and the breeder intended for the puppy to be neutered when it was old enough. Sometimes people decide they are not going to get the puppy fixed, and will use it for breeding…at that point, any puppies produced from that dog are not registerable with the AKC. But the other registeries will sign those dogs up with no questions asked.
