What is this little boy's name? Throw me a bone…..

Basenji Puppy Pen
  • We have a tut in our basenji group already, so I can't use that one….

We did think about the Alpha name which is cute and has nice meaning, but I think Caesar will be in charge of the two...

You never know with basenji puppies...so scrappy....

I have been trying to forget that teething stage around 6months that makes you pull your hair out. :P

I keep remembering Caesar as a little piglet sitting on my feet while I washed dishes and his need to be on top of me at all times....I can handle that again...

So, this means I am on mommy duty for a solid 7 months.....sleeping with my third eye open....so funny....like a pandora's box...

I know basenji puppies are a nightmare, but so damn cute....LOL....

  • If you think he is going to be stocky and bold, how about Titan or Zeus?

  • We almost called Joey, Akele (akeylee), after an African distance runner. It would have been Kele (keylee) for short. I have no idea how we got to Joey…a far cry from Akele!!!
This little button is soooooooooo cute! I like the brindle! What about Daniel?

  • I like Hero :D :D

  • **What a cute face!

    I like the names
    Demsey
Finlay or Finley (pronounced same different spelling)
    Wiley
    Riley
    Tierney (means Lord)
    Oakley

Something you could do is go to www.babynames.com and do an advanced search to narrow down something you're looking for like, nationality, origin, starts with, ends with etc**

  • Mowgli–Pronounced MOE-glee (from the Jungle Book) That's what I named my first basenji, and it is officially retired from my names book.

Kiowa--my favorite character from the novel "The Things they Carried". It's a Native American name.

Kola--a stimulant found in Africa like strong coffee taken by tribes in religious ceremonies. It's where the "cola" comes from in Coca Cola. I always thought it would be very fitting of a basenji...but then again, so would "crackhead".

Okonkwo--Tribal Chief in African Novel "Things Fall Apart".

    Vegas

  • oh vegas, mowgli is such a good idea! when i was a kid i wanted a black something and name him bagera, like the panther in jungle book!

  • I like Zor, Lokey is actually Loki and it is the god of mischief(not B's, they're innocent)in norse mithology but either way I like the name. So glad to hear you decide to get another B to keep Caesar company. Good luck with the new baby.

  • McDreamy! Sorry, have to throw my favorite Gray's Anatomy star's nickname in! :)

  • HA!, These are great guys!!

  • OOH how cute Mowgli is so cute!! He's that big bear from the Jungle Book but as sweet as can be…very submissive so as not to offend Ceasar LOL :D

  • We were checking in on the names and… Was that a cat?;) What's up pussycat! Still like Bongo.

  • Koa[koh' (w)ah]
    In Hawaiian means
    Brave, Bold, Fearless
    Koa (Name of a tree that only grows in hawaii. The color and pattern of the tree looks like that of a brindle dog);

  • ooooh, here is one I like….

    Romeo

Is that too weird? Is that like naming my dog snookums? :p

  • @Mantis:

    Romeo

Caesar + Romeo….nah, too much like Caesar Romero:D

  • How Brutus!!…like the ancient Romans... Ceasar and Brutus! It sounds very Imperial :D :D

  • Romeo makes me think of a local play pal of Luxor's called "Lover Boy", a bulldog with a humping problem, he he. I think Brutus and Ceasar would not be found hanging out in real life, different classes. Julius, or Jules? Cairo, or Chai? Omar…

  • @jys1011:

How Brutus!!…like the ancient Romans... Ceasar and Brutus! It sounds very Imperial :D :D

    Marcus…..continuing on the Roman theme.

  • I think Brutus and Ceasar would not be found hanging out in real life, different classes. Julius, or Jules? Cairo, or Chai? Omar…

That's precisely the point. Ceasar will be the alpha dog & Brutus will be a different class in the echelons of dog society :D :D :D

  • Brutus murdered Ceasar though. It's a harsh name, but the irony is there. The new pup may be more of a contender for top dog than we know.

Not to mention what you will call them when you're angry! :) I also like two syllable names, but often end up using one syllable, e.g. "Perry" sometimes gets "Pay", and my horse, "Hero" often just gets "Roe".

I agree, I wait to be around a pup for a bit and then often pick a name that ties to the registered name; FoPaw's Designated Driver "Sober" FoPaw's Little Bit of Luck "Clover" FoPaw's Oh My God "Odin" FoPaw's Makes U Wonder "Stevie" FoPaw's Lead Singer "Diva" there are many more but these are a couple that come to mind, owners have picked similar matches. Jordan Reed has chosen some very clever names as well. Atarasi D'Lucks Edition "Eddie" (Clover's brother) Atarasi About Face "Sarge" Atarasi All About Me "Mimi" I love playing with names like this. I like Oakley myself but I think you'll be surprised to know exactly what his name is when you get him home. Good luck with the new baby. Therese

Although "NO" became what Shaye most heard, along with " drop it" (she's too quick for "leave it," so "drop it" has replaced that) and "get off the table" and "stop digging the screens" (on the porch), lately we have been firmly saying her name, then squirting her in the face with a squirt bottle. Amazing how well that works - of course the entire house is getting wet but she's getting the picture that when we pick up the squirt bottle and show it to her, she'd best stop whatever it is she's doing. Gemma, of course, responds to "stop" and "leave it." Must be the "other" kind of dog in her….

Lola used to eat way too fast & she would be very gassy & throw up often after eating. We got her a bowl similar to the brake fast bowl… don't know the name but same concept & we just picked it up at the local PetSmart. Very inexpensive ($7 maybe)... it has plastic dividers to slow her down. I love it & highly recommend it! It completely stopped the throwing up & combined with a change in diet also cut down on smelly gas.
