Sterilized bone

I decided to give a sterilized bone to Buddy and see how he would do because other bones I have given him failed in that they broke off in little pieces. Well I watched and in minutes you can see he had chipped off pieces so I pulled it.
Maybe he just has powerful jaws as he destroyed a new $17 toy that is made pretty rough and tough.
This is about 5 minutes into getting the toy.It's a good thing he does not bite. I've never even heard him growl.

What kind of sterilized bone did you buy? (i.e. brand)
The ones I've used have been very durable. I suppose quality may vary with brands and distribution.

The wrapper says "Cadet Gourmet 5-6" stuffed Shin Bone".

I just bought another one made by Dentleys from Petsmart. 15 minutes and he's manged to chip a very small non sharp piece off and spit it out. If somethings not food he'll spit it out.

I give both natural bones and sterlized, stuffed bones to AJ. He chips off pieces, spits them out and gets the marrow or fake peanut butter out of the middle. Thus far it has not been a problem for him. I figure dogs have been gnawing bones for thousands of years and as long as they don't splinter like chicken bones do, they are okay. I just have to remember to brush off my bed before I get in it. :D
How did they get all that stuff inside the cloth fish???

AJ will chew on his bones for a while then "lose" them in his bed for a week or so. While they are "lost," he doesn't miss them. Then he'll "find" one and chew it for a while. I'm sure he knows where they are, just doesn't feel like gnawing on them. "A while" means about half an hour. I don't pick them up all the time so that he won't feel like he has to aggressively get after the bone before it's taken away. I don't know whether that would work with Buddy…he's not used to having bones around.
I've heard the gnawing is good for their teeth and jaws.

Buddy figures that if he destroys his toys that I'll have to buy new ones and that's his contribution to keep the economy going. :D

Otis leaves the stuffing alone..our dachshund Gus does not and once it is opened Otis is all over it..
I give Otis raw shank bones and yes over time he will chip it, but that is weeks of chewing on it..I per my trainer got them all some pressed rawhide bones to chew in their crates while supervised…7 minutes it took Otis to chew of pieces large enough to choke him..so no more supervised quiet time in their crates..no more rawhide bones that is. -

I bought him a santa hat too. We'll see if I can get him to wear it for 2 seconds while a snap one. Camera battery is recharging. Yodel ho ho ho!

That's what my B does as well. He's got 4 of them laying around. He'll sit down with one of them every now and then and gnaw on it for awhile.
I've got the Dentleys one also. Haven't noticed any pieces chipping off, but they do slowly wear down a bit over the years.

ohh can't wait to see that pic..Otis is frazzled right now..our tree is up and it is in his way..lol.

Yep, this one is tougher than the other one. I remember now having a sterilized bone for my last 2 Basenjis and it sat around the house for years. They barely chewed on it. They loved those rawhide chews. I had to take it away when it got down to 3" other wise when it got down to a 1/2 to 1" gooey mess they would want to swallow it.
