@lsteffens223 - Congrats, care to share her registered name? Many of us are related by our Basenjis.

Not too many responsible breeders in Fla... go to www.basenji.org and search by state. Note that Basenjis only come in season once a year and 99% of puppies are only born Nov/Dec/Jan, so you most likely will not find any pups this time of year

@hizbaby said in Searching for a LONG time!: I am apparently only allotted a certain number of replies / comments / lkes, and some subjects tell me I am not authorized to view, hmmm... there are occasions when posts (and entire topics) are removed from the Forum. I monitor the posts for spam so that members (like yourself) do not have to wade through advertising for things like "printer support". And there are subjects that you wouldn't have access to, like things in the "Moderator's Lounge" where I can contact the site owners with questions. Every once in a while, I will see a notice that I, myself, have made too many comments. It's not a restriction on you or anyone else... it's just an alert that the server is busy... give it a count of 10 and resubmit your comment. The server just needs a minute to process whatever it was doing. your email was removed from the post before I could reply to you personally. I do remove personal contact information in posts, but you can usually find someone's email address on their profile page. Just click on their screen name, like this: @hizbaby. I think @Daureen was the one that sent her email. I did send you some information about a breeder in the chatroom (also on your profile page), but I wasn't sure if you were able to reach them.

@giza1 that does sound like a scam but there are lots of actual dogs on Craigslist in need of a good home some people don’t want to place there dog in a shelter and hope to find someone who would give there a dog a good home. If someone is posting a dog on Craigslist they are most likely not worthy owners. So getting a dog from Craigslist u can look at as a rescue because you really are rescuing them from unfortunate circumstances.. I got extremely lucky in finding a 4 month basenji on Craigslist we drove to Philadelphia(not from same person) picked him up and has had no problems at all other then a food allergy. He was checked for Fanconi and we’ve done lots of tests to make sure he was ok with every possibility... even if he was terminally ill I would have rather picked him up and gave him the best years of his life as opposed to leaving him with the people who obviously could not take care of him and therefore posting him and litter mates on Craigslist. Always be careful when meeting someone on Craigslist though there’s lots of scams and bad people but there are also lots of real dogs in need of loving homes.

Yes, its seems to be the way, just leave something if its not convient. My family was Navy, 30 and as I am 60 old, you know that was a ways back. We took our ****er to Hawaii 2 times. Yes, expensive, but part of the family. Wish folks were more responsible, sigh, but times seem to be changing. what was deleted is spanial, co*ker…laugh.

It is not true that all puppymill pups go to petstores. If the USDA breeder is unable to sell all their pups to the dealer/broker due to a lack of demand or a defect where the dealer does not accept them, the breeder will sell online either on a site like puppyfind.com or its own website. If the breeder/dealer does not want to sell their pups via the internet, they can sell them at a dog auction. Here is the biggest dog auction http://www.swkennelauction.com/ and the other one is http://heartlandsale.com/index.html Heartland Sales usually has a lot of older pups for sale as compared to breeding dogs. SW Kennel Auction has been having a lot of dispersal sales this fall season. SW Kennel Auction is weekly from early September to early June and Heartland Sales is about once a month, I believe year round. The best thing to do is to look up the breeder name on the USDA website and see if they are USDA licensed. The breeder could be either licensed as a breeder or a dealer. A dealer can be a breeder who can sell their own pups to a petstore or another breeder's pups to a petstore. The largest USDA dealer is The Hunte Corp. who sells the majority of pets to petstores. Here is the website: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/animal_welfare/pubs_reports.shtml Look under reports which is down near the bottom of the page and click on ?List of Active Licensees and Registered Facilities. You can also look at the inspection reports for all USDA licensed facilities at ?Inspection Reports which is also under reports. Jennifer
