  • Yesterday we went coursing. Tillo just loves that game! :D

    Tillo's first course:

    Got it!!

Second course, together with Isha, a basenji girl :) Tillo looked huge next to her.. gg.. Tillo does have to loose a pound or two.. Working on it..

Tillo wondering who the F* is running next to him..

Almost at the finish. Isha was already there, because she decided that girls don't have to run the whole course..

    After the run :)

  • Those are great shots! Looks like Tillo loves coursing.

  • Great pics. I didn't realize Tillo was such a tall boy.

You mentioned that Isha cut the course short. I read that that's one of the problems when running a Basenji multiple times on the same course….they remember where the 'bunny' was previously sighted and cut the course to wait and intercept. Have you seen or experienced this?

They change the course after the first run, so they can't remember how to run. The dogs do know that the lure won't leave the field.. And sometimes they think they can 'outsmart' the lure, but 50 % of the time they're wrong :D There is an Azawakh that runs in front of the lure.. Pretty funny to watch :D

In this case Isha just stopped, turned around and ran to her owner :D Like she was saying: '500 m is just enough for me'

  • Thanks for the info, Janneke. BTW, Tillo looks great, just a sturdy boy–or as I say with my substantial female, formidable.:D

  • Great pics, Tillo looks as if he was worried there for a minute that Isha was catching him up :D

  • Great pictures and commets too. I love th eone of them running along side..full fledged race..

  • Looks like they had a great time.

  • Looks like fun. My Bs would love to do that. It is instinct or must they be trained?

He can run off-leash allmost everywhere here. Most days I don't need his leash at all. Only have to watch for foxes. He really hates those and will go after them untill he gets them. Good thing is he has an excellent recall. And he is allways watching me, wont go further away from me then 50 meters. So walking him isn't a problem at all (as long as no foxes cross our path that is…).

Okay, clearly you knew Kipawa was Scarlett's brother. Well to both of you, Olive (formerly Fina) just left after spending the day here playing with Lyric (formerly Kiki). Her mom and dad had dinner with us while the dogs played and played and played. Olive is adorable as well, but then how could she not be. And still small but filling out, Olive looks just like her daddy Sober. Hug both Scarlett and Kipawa for us and so glad you guys hooked up here. Therese

Gorgeous Pup and you sure live in a lovely place. He looks like he's caught an interesting scent in the fourth pic from the bottom.

@Janneke: I've recently heared that the Dutch Basenji Club bought a lure coursing machine. Now they only need to organise some events…... (and find a field etc..) yes they bought one, but have no field , so what is the use of that? they say they are not depending on third parties anymore but that is not truth since they still dont have their own field :D so it is still more easy to train with the allready existing coursingclubs ( like Leek ) p.s.: when can i see all the nice pictures of the coursing that Job made? :-)

You may want to try frequently rewarding him for staying still before he gets a chance to complain. You can then start building up time between treats once he gets the idea that standing still will get him a reward.
