    Hello everyone i am a new B owner from cleveland ohio. I would love to know more about the breed.I got this most wonderful dog from a petstore i used to work at. she sat in the window for 3mnth. I could not take to see this majestic animal sit there any long so finely i broke down and got her. She is much smaller than any other B i have seen and kinda goofy, but i still love her like she is my own child! The day after i got her i Left the Pets store and never went back. I thank God every day that i have a B in my life. And my cats are never begging to play any more.

    Now that's a great way to "rescue" a basenji. I got my Abbey from a couple who owned the mom and dad, not a BRAT rescue, and could not be happier with my choice.

    Welcome Shannon, glad you joined this Forum. I think if I worked at a petstore, I'd probably have lots of pets. But, like you - noticing a pet had been there for 3 months - I'd take it home too. How old is your StellaGirl now? Check out the Behavioral Forums here for tips and techniques in training.

    my stella will be a year on jan 18. one going on 15 she acts like she knows it all. so far ok on traing just having a hard time w/ house breaking her she thinks the weight room is her potty place. any tips?

    Before you get a puppy… go to the Basenji Club of Canada and Basenji Club of America websites and read up on Fanconi and other heritable diseases. ANY breeder not testing for these disease is NOT someone you should spend your time or money on one of their puppies. Too bad you didn't look 4-5 months ago... there was a lovely litter of Khani's pups up in Drumheller! Best of luck to you!

    @rbrady: I've been trying to find out more about heelers, since one person replied that they, too, can be quite troublesome. I'm also trying to find a vet here in Nashville who would be better with her than her current one. Thanks for the welcome. Love your dog! Rita Maybe you can contact an ACD breeder? There is also a lot of information on the internet! I think it is really important that you can just visite your vet for some socialisation. When Mirtillo and I go to the vet, he gets some kibble.. and then we go back home. He LOVES her.. (I think he likes her more then me ;) ) About the 'evilness': is Daisy really growling and biting? When we first went to our puppytraining, we also got the comment that Mirtillo wasn't really social to other dogs. He got them between his jaws.. and just wouldn't let go :eek: It is getting better now.. but with the 'stuffed animal look-a-likes' I really have to watch him and sometimes I have to free the other puppies.. Mirtillo also loves to 'bite' people who approach him and think he likes it that they touch his head. He doesn't growl though, but I do believe that when he finds out growling works…. I tell Mirtillo to sit and I tell the 'strangers' to only pet him between his front legs. He knows he gets a treat and everything is ok. I don't know if it will work for Daisy, but I do know it is important she doesn't have success with her behaviour. I hope you can find all the information about the basenji-side of Daisy on this forum!! And thank you for complimenting Mirtillo :D

    Welcome to the group Monet! What kind of behavioral issues are you having? Hopefully it's nothing treat-training can't solve. That's the only way my doggie learns. "Treat training". :)

    @jys1011: Hi everyone! We just got two wonderful basenjis from El Dorado Basenji breeders in Mass. Our lil boy is C3PO is 3 yrs old & our lil girl is Topaz is 2 yrs old. They're too adorable for words. I've only had them about 3 weeks but already I adore them dearly. We're trying to adjust them to their new home since they are adults but we hope that we will soon be able to go on play dates & such fun basenji outings:D JYS, What are your Basenjis registered names?
