I was living in Ghana for a few years and the year before I left had gotten my dog as a puppy from a neighbor. We became so attached, of course, that I couldn't leave him behind. It actually was very easy to bring a dog into the country–only a proof of rabies vaccination was required (surprising since the US has the strictest immigration laws for people!). He has adjusted very well, loves taking walks with a leash (in ghana he would run wild, and follow me around on my bicycle.) He refuses to walk in wet grass, though, which is something I think he shares with basenjis? I didn't post any pictures of how his forehead wrinkles--that's when he looks most like a basenji!

We are J J and Karin, Kansas City, Mo. Both of our kids are rescues, Itty Bitty Basenji now 5 years old, originally from Craigs List and Mr Baroo, now about 2 years old, a BRAT adoption. We have no idea where they came from or exactly how old they actually are. Bitty is the more delicate little girl with the white face, Baroo is the more muscular boy with the totally red head. I looked up the dates for LGRA in August in Oberlin and I will on vacation that week in NC. I would like to meet up with you for a play date one weekend. Cody gets his staples out on Tues. (yeah) So after that I would be free most weekends until Aug 20. If you have suggestions on dog parks to go to let me know.

    BuanaB
@Kananga: Hehe, Buana looks like he's trying to keep his paws clean. He really wanted to hold onto it but knew it would get his paws all dirty. How often do you feed them raw food like that? I've been thinking about doing that with my B every once and awhile. Well, raw like a fish or a pigs nose/ear or someting similair we give them once in a while. When we see someting that looks really fresh and delicious (fin the B's eyes of course) we'll take it. We bought the last tima some baby chickens but they didn't eat that.. (it's to furry I think) Snake food like frozen mice or rats (healthy and especially for food, not wild rodents!!) the love it.. Here in holland you can't let them eat road kill, it's often poisened or sick. @AndrewnShango: Oh, I am just in love with Chafuko! He's awesome!! :D We hope so much, he'll get daddy in a few years when al the health tests are good!!!

    NexaN
Nexa is full af. and she is very cautious in new situations. She is curious and wants to say hi to every dog or person we see, but if they approach her she will back away. The introductions have to go at her pace. We were on a walk the other day and she was desperate to investigate a cat laying in someone’s driveway. She just stood there staring at the cat from 5-6 feet away, as soon the cat came towards her she tucked her tail and ran like it was a lion after her. The cat might have weighed 8 pounds wet. She is wary, but with her curiosity she just can’t let things go.

Senji loves curling up in the wicker chairs too. They're perfectly basenji-sized!
