A urinary concern :(

  • I've noticed recently Anne has began discharging a green/yellowish viscous substance when she urinates. She's been drinking plenty of water and doesn't seem to be in any pain and it doesn't seem to bother her much… just takes her a little longer to pee.

She was spayed and had just got her stitches out days before we adopted her. Might it be possible she has come down with some sort of infection?

Regardless, I have made an appointment at the earliest date (next monday) to take her in and get it looked at... but I was wondering if anyone had an idea as to what it might be?

(Also, sorry for a not so specific to basenji question - I'm just kind of worried and didn't know who else to ask.)

  • Never seen this - keep us informed regarding the vet report.

  • It is probably a little vaginitis….or an irritation of the vagina. It is really common in puppies...best to have it checked out to make sure.

  • When in doubt see the vet. Animals can be good at seeming not in pain when they are.

Don't worry Ivoss, I wear the pants ;) I do most of the care taking & 99% of socializing the dogs either myself or with Andrew in tow. That may be Andrew's opinion, but fortunately he isn't allowed alone with the dogs… j/k of course. Sort of. ;)

You really shouldn't treat them both equally - first dog first is always a good rule of thumb. My daughter bought a house and moved in this week and her basenji is having a difficult time of it as well - too much too different - but she's getting it. Kristen had put vinyl down in a small office in the lower level and made it a 'dog room' Thumper has a big pen with warm cozy things, lots of toys and her varikennel should she need to be alone in her cave. IN the previous house she had the run of the house but until Kris is sure that she knows the rules on where to stand if you want to potty, etc - she'll be confined there when no one is home. She is not amused with Pergo floor - too slippery!

I have never had a problem with boys after being neutered… but since it has only been a week and 1/2 could be that he is still healing.... But again, I have never had that problem. If it continues I would certainly talk to your Vet..,
