There are times…

Basenji Talk
  • on sunny spring afternoons like this one, when I look out in my yard and see Jazz and Keoki relaxing in the sunshine, their white looking so brilliantly white,
it almost takes my breath away.

Wow. Those are two beautiful dogs!:)

    {and they're MINE!!!!! ;) }

  • :D PICS!!! please make some pics!!!!!

  • I get that breathless moment while walking Shaye in a field, when something catches her attention and she stands tall, back legs a little behind, head high, with the sun shining on her - she looks so elegant then - those moments are great to counter the ones where she's trying to eat my house and refusing to stop racing up and down off everything like a maniac doing whatever it takes to really get us going, and ringing her bell to go out when she has no reason to go out except to get out and play…..etc., etc.

  • Yes, I know what you mean. They look so regal!!!

Yes…I have that feeling regularly! It takes my breath away when Bella floats across the yard at over six years old...she looks as beautiful as she did as a puppy...moreso even :*)

And then the spell is broken, as her son uses her as a mop to clean up all the dirt on the patio ;)

  • word. When I see my Lycia running free in a field she looks just like a gazelle, and everyone is so struck by her grace. Makes me a proud mama… and the will to deal with all the other basenji stuff ;)

  • When Jibini was young; 1-2 years old, he and I lived in the same house with my Mom for a while.

Mom is not a Basenji person. Mom likes fluffy mop-dogs. And cats. Mom wasn't entirely sure what to make of the adolescent-puppy, obnoxious little spawn of Satan that had just invaded her house and was now standing on the couch "leaning" on her. "Why doesn't he sit in my lap like a regular dog?" she'd ask. She did not take kindly to having her underwear stolen. Or finding the bathroom trash can empty and tiny little balls of wet paper all over the floor.

However, despite her lukewarm feelings towards him, she'd watch him out in the yard or see him trotting across the living room….and she'd say, "Wow, he just looks so....REGAL!" Or, "He behaves like he's in a dog show all the time." His presence and appearance even captivated my MOM.

And for what it's worth, now that Jibini has matured past his undies-stealing escapades, she actually- in her own words- really, REALLY likes him.

  • I have many moments like this – when Gossy runs along the fence with the neighbor's dog (it's a long fence so they can really get up the speed); when she's laying in the sunny spot; when she plays chase the bird shadow; when she curls up in my lap; when she ... :D

Ha, ha, ha…mine is a similar story...

I'm in awe the way Ruby moves...it is breathtaking. And her coat is dark chestnut so the white is soooo white, she is beautiful. And Brando is so muscular and such an incredibly male looking boy...so handsome. Liyah's coat is gorgeous...really dark chestnut with not a lot of brindle stripes...they are all so lovely to look at and I think how lucky I am that they are happy and healthy.

And then "snap back to reality"...Liyah goes and clamps on Ruby's neck or grabs Brando's tail and then the noises of "cujo" end my beautiful picture. :D:D:D

@Cafu LOL on cutting leash.. I am certain they have retractable scissors in their gums. I have had mine cut leashes and cut straps to clothing that were so smooth, nothing else but scissors explains it (okay or razor blades). Which is why I put these on the collars... snap/ o ring, chain, o ring, leash [image: 1508253202524-leash.jpg]

Sounds like your vet's office has all the right setups for boarding and for day care - my own vet's office does not have all those facilities. Wish they did! At the place where I do take them, the outside play area is covered,so climbing out is not possible, or I would worry about that as well, since our B's certainly can climb! So glad you have found a place Cody is safe and happy when boarding is necessary.

For all those of you living in cold climates - I got a "Chilly Dog" coat (http://www.chillydogs.ca/) for Brodie a couple Christmases ago. It is a great design and super warm and has held up really well. A bit expensive but worth it. He also got a matching head muff which was supposed to keep his ears warm (this was when we were living in Ottawa and the -40C weather) but he hated having his ears covered.

I have decided to keep Baroo, and I hate to be so back and forth on the issue, but I am sure you have all been there at some point and understand. I am going to start a new post, so please see that one for further explaination. Thanks for all of your advice so far, I know I will be needed more now though!
