Nala pictures

  • Here are a couple of pictures of Nala by the fire - since we finally got some seasonable temperatures! Also, one of my daughter Natalie and Nala at her Grandma & Grandpa's house with their new-fangled pre-lit, fiber optic (OMG! ) Christmas tree! My husband had to set it up for them because it weighs so much and my Dad had cardiac bypass in August. It'll be up until we go down in February!!

  • She is so pretty! I love tris!

  • Thanks…we think so! Notice the reddish hue on her otherwise normally black parts - it's from the three hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and citrus Dawn de-skunking baths! Now she's a sassy red-head like my daughter!

  • It's nice to see Nala's picture! Both your girls are very cute. Bet Nala would be even closer to the stove if not for the safety cage - very good idea. Thanks for sharing.

  • Nala sure is a pretty girl. So is your daughter Natalie!

  • I just love tricolors!

  • I would just love to add a couple of Tri's to my collection.   :D

  • Nala is so pretty!! And how sweet of her to let Natalie hug her during the picture!! :)

  • Thanks for the compliments about both of my girls! Yes Jill, as a puppy before we bought the safety gate, she'd lay in a tiny fleece bed right under the stove! I just love Nala's face in the picture with Natalie - like you said, jys1011, she's "letting" her hug her - LOL! It cracks me up…

  • Very nice, both of them;) …..thanks for sharing Nala.:)

  • so sweet! and typical basenji…as close to the warmth as she can get! you have very pretty girls!

  • Your girls are truly beatiful, how proud you must be :)

What is Nala´s official name?? If she has one of course. Not meaning to be rude or too forward just wondering, she is so pretty :)

  • Well, if my husband had let me register her (why spend the $$ - we're spaying her?), her name would have been Mata Hauri Nala, but sadly we didn't. We got her from Mata Hauri Basenjis in NH…I can post her lineage if you'd like it...Thank you for the compliments. We think she's pretty too (and our daughter too!), but we're biased!

  • Thank you :) No need for pedigree, just wondered who her breeder was.

I haven´t been to interested in Tri´s but your girl really caught my eye.

Best wishes to all of you :)

  • Just because you neuter a dog doesn't mean you can't do things like Lure Coursing, Agility, or Obedience with them. Since registration costs go up significantly if you wait, I always register my pups when they go home so the owners can decide to participate in these events later without having to pay late fees for registration. It also helps in keeping track of the dog's pedigree if you choose to participate in any of the DNA studies to help better the health of our breed.

  • Well let's just ay that Obedience is definitely out (LOL) and the fact that she'd have to listen to do Agility…hmmm....that's out too. That leaves only Lure Coursing and well, she's not fun to be with on a leash, especially around other dogs...so again...that's out!
But seriously, I've often felt that I've done her (and the breed and breeder) a disservice for not registering her. I guess I'll have to wait until the next one (if I can convince my husband to get another Basenji) to rectify the matter. I never knew about the DNA studies...
Thank you all for your compliments and information.

@weeziesmom: I have tried chew bones to curb his chewing however he tries to take weezies and they fight over them You can teach him to leave hers alone. Make them both sit for their chew; give hers first and make him stay with you when she dashes off to chew. {helps him see that she gets one/he gets one, and also gives her a head start!} Make sure he knows you have one for him also. He must sit and make eye contact with you before he is given his treat. Once they both have a chew, make them stay in different spots. Stand between them, moving your body silently to block his attempts to get to her. If necessary, tell him "no" or "leave it". It shouldn't take long for him to learn that he gets his and she gets hers. Eventually, he will just look when you hand her the treat and will sit and stare at your face until he gets his own, then he'll run to his own spot to chew his bone.
