  • So i am going to pick up my new puppy saturday. This will be my second B and I was wondering if i should take me male with us to get the new puppy(female). Or if i should just leave him home an introduce them hear. what do you guys think?

  • Congrats on your new pup!!!!

When we picked up our second pup, we took our oldest B with us, and on our way back we stoped and give them time to know each other on neutral grounds.

At home, they immediately went playing together and since then (almost a year later) they never had a fight or even a growl..
    We have two males.

We took both males with us when we picked up Hailey, did the same thing and also with her, they never had a fight since they are all together!

  • I would take the adult with me, then stop and have a few walks together on the way home. Coming into the home together is better than bringing in a strange sharp-toothed monster.

  • Yes, take the dogs to meet before you bring them home.
Do let us know how it goes.

  • My sentiments - take your dog with you when you pick up the pup.

  • I just did that with Nemo and Zoni. However, I might suggest that they meet on a more neutral area when you go down. Nemo met the puppy in the middle of strange basenji central in the breeder's house. He was a tad stressed.

@jhewell What more is there to say ? You have put it brilliantly ! A friend who has Persian Blues, I think they are called, and Basenjis operates on a two tier level. The cats are fed on the kitchen work-surface and enter and leave the house via the kitchen window onto a garden table. Once outside they are more than able to take care of themselves. Indoors the cats have perches and climbing frames the dogs don't manage to fathom. All is perfectly harmonious. No cat dares come into my garden. They haven't for years, through endless and changing packs of Basenjis. Occasionally one will come down the drive and sit in the sun by the cars but they never try to come over any gate into Basenji home turf. You are going to have endless 'fun' ! Good luck -

Thank you. Yes, our breeder is litter box training. Our first Basenji was a mix (Basenji and Retriever), but she had a lot of Basenji ways. She was already housebroken when we got her, so we didn’t have to worry about that task. We will definitely continue the litter box training until he is old enough to be outside and it is warmer.

Hello, yes I nearly got taken in by one posting in the UK with the same green background and advertised for ?300. They said they would ship the puppy unseen, very strange. Buyers beware.

My vet, 20 yrs ago didnt' know about fanconi, but did work to learn about it. If you like your vet and think they are "trainable" get them some info from the net. If it doesn't help your dog, it might help a dog in the future.
