SCV Kennel Club Dog Show in San Jose, CA (Feb. 15-16, 2009)

  • Regarding this event, does anyone know if the basenjis (and their humans) will be around on Monday (2/16)? If so, what is the best time to come by and meet them?

Also, are non-show dogs allowed to come with us at this event?

    Thanks!

(P.S. The Santa Clara Fairgrounds website, where it's being held, does not provide any details about this event.)

  • Basenji ring time for Monday is 9:15am, ring 6 in Exposition Hall. So Basenji will be there for showing, but usually are gone when over. At shows, dogs that are not entered are not supposed to be on the show grounds, now usually at an outdoor show, you can get away with it, but this is indoors, so not a good idea to being your Basenji. Also, remember those of us who are showing are trying to get our dogs ready for the ring and sometimes dogs that are not entered can be a big distraction. I will be there, so will lvoss and Vanessa from the forums. Here is a link to the judging program for Monday, dogs will typically only be there for their ring times. http://www.infodog.com/jps/891/jpg891.pdf

  • I really wish this weather would clear up.
I've been trying to work with Kiya but it just won't let up outside!!!
Every time I open the door now she gives me this look like "Do I seriously have to mom…its wet out there"
She will even take such drastic measures as to walk in between my legs to stay under my raincoat!

Yes, I agree, it is supposed to be really nasty on Sunday.. and Ann has OB with Crystal in the morning… yikes.....

  • Oah No!
I've been looking at the weather reports as well.
It's hard enough B's have a mind of their own…now lets stir in some poor weather...this equals a very entertaining day for us :)

    EXACTLY!!!! :o

  • Lucky for you Pat, Sophie really could care less about the weather. Don't know that she will be any less of a handful but it isn't going to cause her to be any more wild. Rio on the other hand hates the cold and wet.

Hey, one point in my favor….gggg

Kobey doesn't mind the weather really either, not as much as some others... but still will be glad to be indoors

@DebraDownSouth: Oh Pat, for crying out loud, cause I obviously need a combination of more sleep and caffeine I saw UK and thought United Kingdom. My daughter says I don't have to look for a nursing home, they're looking for me some days. :) I'd delete my post but it's pretty funny so I won't. LOL Debra…. take the caffeine! It is pretty funny!!!!!

It is sad that the numbers have reduced so much. We enter lots of open shows up here in Scotland since there are few Basenji classes anyway here. There are only two Championship shows in Scotland with CCs on offer too. We try to make as many shows south of the border as possible but with fuel costs etc it's just impossible.

There will be at least four basenjis at Ed Levin Park in Milpitas this Sunday from 11am. My husband and I have two, and a colleague of his has two as well. If any others would care to join us, it would be great to see you! (The park is 3100 Calaveras Rd Milpitas. There is an entrance fee for the park, but I think it's worth it, it's a really nice park, and the off leash dog enclosures are some of the nicest in the area. The dog park itself is a little tricky to find - ask at the booth, or email me if you'd like directions ) Pics to follow!

I came across an enclosed doggie park here in Queens New york. Not very big but the owners seemed pretty alert which is great. Champ loved it, except that we had one big hairy dog enter the area and I knew this was trouble since my B loves to pull hair (mine too) anyway as soon as Champ saw this dog he was off and I was off after him. Callin ghim to come over,,yeah right. I almost caught him twice then finally I saw him grab the dog and kind of nip and pull. I was so eager to grab him at this point since eventhough I know he wouldn't bite the dog, I'm sure niether the owner or the dog would appreciate getting a haircut from my B. Well as I was running over to them I saw my B grab hold of the dogs tail and pull. Let me just insert this: the other dog was too busy playing with big dogs her size to worry about this little brat pulling at her. Anyway I caught up to my B and put his leash on ending his fun time at the park and when I look down at him, he had a big fur ball in his mouth…how embarrasing. All in all the park was a nice experience and gave my B a chance to run around free without his mommie chasing after him on the leash.
