  • I just posted Bisa's photo, taken in the arms of the breeders husband.

I have yet to find the 'contraptions' for my cellphone in order to download pics from it to the 'machine' at Walmart. Meantime, I also have a zillion phto films to get developed and of course, she is on a few of them. :p)

  • Thank you for the welcome!

  • I just posted a photo from the breeder when we were in the adoption process. Once I get the zillion photos developed from the used films I have in a drawer, I will post more as she is of course in those.

Very cute….do you know if her sire and dam have been DNA tested for Fanconi? Or if she has been? If not you should consider having the DNA test done. You can read about it at www.basenjihealth.org

  • As I told the others who have already welcomed me, thank you for yours as well

I posted a photo the breeder had taken during the adoption process. Once I get the films developed I can post more. I have them on my cellphone too but lost the piece I need to download them

  • Believe it or not … I just replied to Vicki [from the Rugosa Basenjis] when I saw her introductory 2006 post. She is the breeder we got Bisa from!

    Thank you for the reply.

Before we adopted Sakari [one of the the 1/2 & 1/2 'babies' in my intro] we had read up online about Basenjis. Then we bought a book regarding the breed. And when we were looking for a purebreed I found another fantastic book about basenjis that we bought to add to our reading pleasure regarding the breed.

Whenever we adopted a dog from Petfinder we always surfed the net for information about the dogs we saw that interested us to adopt. [Before we had our computer we would go to the bookstore, library, or pet store to read up about them.

We are firm believers that making a selection on an animal you want to bring into your home needs to also include your reading up about whatever you are going to adopt. Even with lots of love and attention to give to an animal, we believe you cannot properly care for the animal unless you do.

    ~ Blessings ~

Thanks Pat! I edited my message as I did not know the normal 'sign' of " :P) " would be a 'sticking out of tongue' instead of the normal 'smile' as used in e-mails!!! Yikes!!!!

Whatever she is, she's a little doll. It's nice to know that the displaced pups are finding such good homes.

Welcome to the forum. Great story too. I especially like the description of your other dog "Betty the Sheprador Chowtriever ." That's Funny! My basenji/whippet mix also came from a local shelter. She wasn't there long enough, or perhaps they didn't know much about bs, but they only had her listed as whippet mix. Didn't take long for a dog savy friend of mine to mention the word "basenji." No doubt in my mind, she is basenji and something. I picked her out and my mother paid for her. Best Christmas present I ever got!
