  • Jerry here, seems Mollys 'mom signed on a couple yrs ago so she is in the system too. Same Molly, different member name. 2009 goal, check into this forum more often.
Molly(real name' Millika Ubei) swahili name) is 3 now, she loves playing with other Basenjis and other breeds, as long as they don't come in her yard space.I often think about adding another basenji to the family, but we have decided agianst that idea. She is not very good at sharing her toys.

  • Welcome (back?)!! Always fun to read updates on the 'lost' members. What's Molly been up to for the last couple of years??

  • We feel Molly has grown into a fine young little lady. Everyone loves her. She acts like a little princess. She has traveled with us in the Motorhome since we got here when she was 8 wks old. She has been to Alaska, Florida , Indiana and all points in between. She discovered she doesn't particularly like the water, ocean, Great lakes , anything causing wave action.

we look forward to enjoying her as part of our family for many years to come. And we really enjoy hearing other BJ 'parents' stories. The Basanji is certainly a different kind of dog and unless someone has lived with them, they will not really know them.:)

    thanks

  • Welcome Molly's dad! :D

    Have fun on the forum!

  • Welcome back Molly! And welcome Molly's dad!

  • @jerrymac55:

She acts like a little princess.

Well, duh!!! Isn't she one!? How else would she act!?

    Welcome back.

    Pat

  • Hey there, welcome back. Do you remember the first member name she used? I would like to look at previous posts to remember Molly better. She seems like such a sweetie girl!

Most people incorrectly use the terms dominant and dominance with regard to dogs. Here is a good blog post by Dr. Sophia Yin on the topic. http://drsophiayin.com/blog/entry/dominance_in_dogs_is_not_a_personality_trait

Welcome! I have seen red and white Shibas that looked just like a long haired basenji. You could have a shiba-basenji mix, perhaps. He is a very cute dog, I see why you are in love. They are hard to resist! For about $60 there is a DNA test if you are really curious…..

Admittedly Basenjis and sheep are a problem. Thank you for such friendly welcomes. I have had some Basenjis who I did eventually manage to 'train'!!? to be safe with sheep and could wander among them and occasionally help to herd, others (including my current pack are killers and can't be left to wander freely where the sheep are. We have a double gate system for visitors. There was a time when I could have taken them all out for walks together but now I take them 3 at a time and my whole day is taken up with exercising dogs. When I get the hang of my digital camera I'll post some piccies. Nomrdggs - I'm not sure I have kept my sanity!!!! Tanza - I have actually seen some of our original imports - and I have attempted to breed as close to the original type as I can. I bred my last litter 4 years ago.
