its nice cant wait to get lucy in there
We built Yard II three years ago, so I have more work to do…....it's a work in progress. The first time the dogs got to run in that yard was the happiest I've ever seen them........they where actually smiling.:) Yard II is about four times larger than Yard I. The first year they caught 10 rabbits in there, last 2 years….......none.....them rabbits ain't dumb.:D

Wow! How beautiful…for all of you! What a great place. Thanks for sharing.
-
holy moly! what a gorgeous place!!! looks like Basenji-heaven to me!
-
I agree!! WOW!!!! Makes me jealous!
-
Thanks All!:)
Some of the tropical plants are actually inside plants, we bury pot and all in a flower bed…..to give it that jungle feel.:D I wish I lived in a warm weather location where I wouldn't have to do that.

Wow, that is quite impressive!!!!!!!! Rocket would just love to be let loose in a place like that!! We have a really large yard, would love to know how you did that.
-
Very inspiring! Yard 1 sure doesn't look like PA! Banana plants?? I especially like how your plants are NOT up against the fence since that is were most like to run (ah, landscaping for Basenji's in mind!). Seriously, I think this is a great idea to keep your Basenji's interest – more things to explore. The more and I add to my yard makes give them more to check out and more interesting paths in a game of chase. I was looking at one of your other posts and really like your dry creek bed. So I added a 35' long creek bed over the weekend. We have a low spot which gets muddy in the spring. Problem fixed. The dogs seem to love it and it looks pretty nice too.

It's funny becasue the Basenji's played the biggest part of the design. The smaller yard was mostly lawn in the begining, they wore a path along the fence, so we adjusted accordingly as you point out and just made it their path and put the plants back away so they don't get trampled. I fill it with play sand every year keeps feet clean and mud free.
The center stone path was where they always ran out of the house, down to the fence, Hang a left and run along the fence. So they had a mud path across the grass….so dig it up, and make a stone path with a sand box at the end. The stone helps with they're nails and also when it rains, they don't mind wet stone as much as wet grass. They use those little stepping stones as a path around the yard as well.I'm already seeing where I need to make paths in the second yard. It's work, but fun work for me. Our kids are grown, so our Basenji Babies have taken over the back yard.......it is a playground for them. My son wants to burry a pipe or tunnel they can run through. He hasn't completely convinced me yet, too many bugs and spiders in something like that......I'm still listening.

Oh BBoy your basenji's must be so proud of their owner you've done an amazing job. You've even convinced me to try something similar altho MUCH SMALLER scale in our yard so that our B's can enjoy it more. We have a small yard but we want to fence it all in so that they can play & go potty here as opposed all over the neighborhood  I like the clay & stones idea since this is the thing they hate most about going out is their feet…so picky these guys.

When you do and it's complete, be sure to include pictures of C3PO and Topaz enjoying the new yard.;) With all the rain we've had here lately, all that stone and sand are keeping the mud out of my house.;)

Greetings from Basenji Park.:)WOW:p : This very bautiful place:p Paradise for basenji:) I admire your effort and idea.

Ok now you need a covered potty run and send us the plans! I just had to stand out in the cold rain to MAKE ours go. For some reason they won't go in the rain unless I'm out there with them. If the neighbors wouldn't complain, I'd probably figure out how to! …I also want a double entrance into the fence -- like at dog parks. My wife looked at me like I had green goo coming out of my ears. It seemed like a good consideration... ohh, I could have a treat dispencer like at petting zoos for the kids!

I haven't mastered the rainy day Basenji yet….....if I do, I'm writting a book and hope to be wealthy.:) Good luck with that;) HUH?
Wacko dogs. But yet they like the snow.....go figure?
-
Oh thank goodness!! I was starting to think I might build an underground park for them if they were going to be just as bad about the snow as they are with the rain. C3 absolutely refuses to MOVE if it's raining. He's even tried to "fake" potty so that I can take him back inside.
I thought the snow was going to be just as brutal. Finally something to look forward to.

that is one awesome yard! Our Tut & Zoe would have a blast in a yard that size.

Your yard is so beautiful and I am sure it keeps the Basenjis busy for hours. I live in a condo and wish I had a closed in fence area for Cali to run around. I try to take her to my brothers once a week so she can run around leash free.
I am not sure if there are any Dog parks in Louisville, Ky area, but I will have to check. About the rain, I know this sounds strange, but if I use an umbrella when it is raining Cali will go out and do her business quickly. She hates to get wet and especially her feet. I live in a wooded area and there is a certain section that has a lot of leaves on the ground due to the seasons changing and she will stand on the leaves to potty. My neighbors look at me like I am crazy:)

Your yard is like a person and 'senji paradise! VERY nicely done! How do you winter over so many tropicals? If you say you have a greenhouse I'm going to turn as green w/ envy as the Grinch! Simply amazing and so breathtaking! You've done an amazing job!
