Are you sure you meant me and aren´t getting names mixed up??

  • @Capt_Jack_our_Basenji:

Thank you Myran! I didn't know anyone on here knew about Joy's litter. Thanks for your personal experience and advise! Its nice to know someone who knows of the breeder personally besides my Mother Show friend! Thanks

I think you have Myran mixed up with Mya….

  • @Capt_Jack_our_Basenji:

I wanted to let everyone know how grateful I am for all your opinions and advise and to make sure you all know I am trying as hard as I can to get the best puppy for our family and cover all my options. Joy has put in contract that she is willing to give a full refund and take the puppy back at any age as well as pay for any illness vet bills for the first six months (because she is a friend thru my family) but since we are military we have a free Vet, which is kinda nice!! :) As of now we are still contacting breeders you have referred us too, but we are still interested in our Baby Boy. I guess now I am just waiting on the Fanconi results. But unless either parent is affected, we are going to buy her boy. Thank You ALL so VERY much for all your help in our puppy needs!! I cannot express how glad I am to have such a trustworth and friendly forum here to give us aid, laugh with us and also provide a shoulder to cry on in hard times!! Thank you all very much!!

Since you have made your decision with this breeder, why would you not buy the puppy even is one parent is affected? Breeding to a clear would give all Carriers, but none that would get Fanconi?

  • I meant not just a carrier. Sorry, I should have made that clear. And sorry i did mix up the names…lol. My bad! :)

  • Thank You!

  • Kira,

I hope this all works out for you and everything goes ago. Jack is watching from up above and I am sure he will send the right pup to you.

  • **UPDATE

It is unfortunate, but we canceled our reservation with Joy today…so Poor Baby Boy B isn't going to be coming our way...On a lighter note, we have been blessed with a bit of a miracle thanks to ALL of your help!! We will be getting a Basenji this season from a Local CT breeder and yes avid tester AMAZING litter!!! (the original breeder we were working with)! Just waiting for the details to come thru!! Ill keep you all posted with ALL the details about our Precious B Baby!! and AGAIN thank you so much for ALL your Advice and Guidance! We needed it!

    Kira and Geoff Hayes**

  • I hope it all works out for you. i'm sure there's a b out there (born or not quite yet) with your name on it.

  • There´s a swedish proverb "he who waits for something good never waits too long" so good luck and we´ll keep our fingers crossed there´s a cutie on your way soon:D

  • Glad that things appear to be working out for you -

My sister is also a nurse. She used to organize flu clinics, and one thing that was mandated was that there was a loaded syringe of epinephrine handy. I hear you about the cost of office visits! My horse vet will come to the farm and wrestle with 3 horses floating teeth, give a couple of shots to each, and the bill is less than my Basenji's routine office visit!!! Ridiculous!

@lvoss: It has been raining most of the day here and L'Ox has been unenthusiastic to say the least about going outside. He has been doing really well on potty training and is starting to ask to go out but you could tell every time he actually got outside he was horrified by all the wet. So his remedy was to run to the edge of the covered porch and pee and rush back in. His dilemma was how to do the rest of his business without melting in the rain? So while I was in the kitchen gathering up the dog dishes I hear a clatter and see a little puppy butt escaping into the garage through the cat door. I follow him out there only to find him pooping near the cat's litter box. I guess I should be glad that he seems to be using his brain for good rather than evil right now. My little girl was like that but got out of the habit. She realized that going in the house was naughty (she wouldn't go on the toilet training mats we got her) and even though she hated her feet wet she went on the grass anyway and when she came inside she did the basenji thing and she licked it off her feet.

When we say responsible for the dogs forever - we do really mean forever. I have animals returned to me when they were 9 years old because of significant family issues or death of the owner - I currently have a 12 year old and a 7 year old that now live with me. Think about what that means - because even those of us who are prepared for that - really are never prepared for the impact on our families houses and other dogs. You say you want to keep 2 - be advised that the everyone hanging out together in basenji world is NOT the norm. Most can have 1 male and 1 female - if you are planning on keeping 2 - you may have a problem - not right away but eventually you are likely to do so. I am not sure that I remember who or where Chaos came from but fanconi testing and eye testing for PRA would be critical as well as thyroid screening. What titles does she have - is she a fast as the wind Field CH or Obedience or rally or conformation CH. That would allow you to have evidence that she has characteristics that are valuable to the breed as a whole and quite frankly if all you want are a couple more basenjis - there are many many out there that could use a forever home. In any event - think about it - it's not as easy as you think - if you are going to do it right - and finding good homes is also not as easy as you think. You may not have the experience in weeding out puppy mills who might want your pups and living where you do - you are in the midst of some that do produce basenjis.

@myran: Thh only thing you have to keep in mind that girls go into heat which can be a hassle whining male having to guard and often separate them during the critical period. I have several basenji friends that have 2 even 5 boy´s and it works as they are of different ages puppies are integrated in to the pack when they are less then 12 weeks. But it takes a strong leader males rarely fight to kill more to show who´s the leader and when the other gives up they calm down not so with females they can be really nasty. Are you going to show them and maybe in the future breed then yes a girl but if not i´d choose a boy as it´s cheaper to neuter a boy then sterilize a girl.Especially as you have to let her have one heat before surgery maybe it´s different over there. And as I said before you can have boy´s together that aren´t neutered. But as they´ve mentioned before go with your breeders recommendations. Good Luck,Michelle In the US, price is usually the same for a spay as it is for a neuter…. and usually people opt to spay before the first season in the US.

My husband was afraid that Cooper was "my" dog at first, but things really evened out after we went through training as a family. Now, Cooper is attached to me during the day (when I have days off), and glues himself to Geoff after dinner every night. He still walks and rides in the car better with me, though. And I'm the only one who can brush his teeth!

The individual pics are great and they are not on this site anywhere, just group shots of the same pups. Lady's and Isabelle's. They are just the cutest little things. I've picked the one I want :D Unfortunately there just isn't anymore room in the inn. Ashley
