  • @ibi_n_sane:

    what about this one? ;)

Ohhhh, think how much prettier he'd be if he were a red/white!! :p

    Just kidding; he's beautiful!

  • The cool thing about a black and white or a tri is that you can get a beagle to match (that is if you accidentally wind up adopting a beagle…) Of course, you can (if you are lucky) wind up with one that matches a red too.:) See below - Beegin the b and Brady the lemon/white beagle (Brady is my who-would-ever-give-you-to-a-shelter-pup who obviously moved in with Beegin into a place in my heart)

  • sorry I didn't attach the pic correctly in the first post

Cute pic! And how fun that they match!

If I were ever to get a tri, I suppose I'd have to get a black dobie to match.
Hmmm, something to think about.

  • I love all the colours, but the reds give me a true basenji feeling, especially because the wrinkles are so visible.
Besides the colour, I really like it when the markings are symmetrical. Same height of the socks, collar all around or no collar at all.. Not too much white.. That sort of things ;)

This is exactly what I think! I love reds! All of my dogs (shar pei and dane) are red (well actually red fawn w/black masks).

  • Red/white is my favorite (even though my current one is a tri) but I do like it when there's a lot of white on the other colors. Something about the contrast I think.

  • The best basenji is a Lola basenji!!!
    After her comes everything else.
B/W used to be my least favorite. They just look a bit creepy in pictures sometimes, but then I saw a picture of a b/w puppy. Now I want to collect the whole set!!!

Oh, I think you may be mistaken. While it is true that Lola is a fine Basenji, the BEST BASENJI position was actually already taken, in a tie between Jazzy and Keoki.

Just wanted to clear that up for ya! :p

  • Boy are you two lucky EL D crossed the rainbow bridge - he was BY FAR the best basenji :D Of course Luny is fast catching up. :)

Well I suppose we are all entitled to our own opinions, however wrong they may be :D heehee

Hello??? Have you SEEN my dogs? Better go take another look-see at my photos. You'll be convinced….... trust me... :p

  • I LOVE tris…but we have a majority of reds :) When I first got into the breed I thought red was IT for us...and that tris looked 'funny'....but now I find them the most striking. Followed closely by red for me. Then BW and then brindle. I am VERY picky what I find pleasing with brindles, but I have seen some beauties.

  • Although I think Medjai is a great looking tri, my favorite is the brindles with very little white. I just think some of them scream native dog.

They are indeed quite cute, but I'm still not convinced. Lola can out-cute anything! (Although basenjis sneaking through doggie doors is a tough act to compete with!)
Even other basenji owners at lure coursing events just fawn over her!

I have to agree with the above. I have a R/W and a light brindle but I think the dark brindles are stunning.

I also wouldn't mind a handsome B/W with a white collar and a small white stripe up the face (I think it makes their eyes stand out).

Never liked Tris until I came here to the forums. Still, I think I'd tire of everyone asking me if it was a Min Pin:eek:

  • I've only had a couple people ask if it's a min pin or a chiwawa, but most of the people just ask "what is that" as if Medjai's some sort of alien.

  • @Quercus:

I have to completely agree. Ha, ha, you want to talk about picky…I'm not a huge fan of dark brindle (although I have seen some fantastic ones), I like the red brindle (so medium or light) but most important to me is the striping...and that can make it or break it for me with brindles (on either dark or light).

I obviously love reds. I have 2 reds...of the 2, Ruby has the really dark chestnut red coat which I find stunning. I'm sentimental about reds because the b my brother had when I was a kid was a red. My next favourite is b&w (with little white on the face and if I want to get really picky...long sleeves). Tied for 3rd is red brindle & tri. 4th is dark brindle.

I saw a really light red (almost fawn colour like the Lukuru pup that Pat posted a few months back) this summer who was out of Michael Work's last trip to the Congo I think...Bernadette...she was awesome. So that would be a neat colour as well.

  • Wiley would like to share a pic that NO ONE can out cute

Not sure however that I'm clever enough to attach the picture - I do it so seldom that I always have to trial and error a couple of times.

  • Keep trialing and erroring so we'll get to see if you're right ("a pic that NO ONE can out cute") :)

@tanza I'm definitely attending the next show as a recon trip. Not sure how the work here but if they're similarly easy to enter as the ones in the US, I do want to show Roux! LOL that's a hilarious saying; I absolutely appreciate a smart lady over cluelessness haha :face_with_tongue:

While you might have a point, I disagree. I know many pure red lines that not only do not have that red coat you refer to but also it is a very thick coat. This did not come from Brindles. Also black masking on red Basenjis is more the cause than a bleed from Brindles. The black masking is in a number of bloodlines and was around way before the Brindles showed up. Most believe this is coming from Tri's. Black in the tail is also usually from being Tri factored. And I don't say this because I have or breed Brindles, because I don't. I just don't believe the this color is the cause. I think we have a number of lines that produce that rich red color.

@Kipawa: Boy, I will put my flame retardent suit on here before I say this - in the picture of the four basenjis, well, they look so unhappy. ALL of them. I sympathize with the breeder in that she has some medical/mental restrictions, but the look of the breeding facility frightens me. If she has medical/mental restrictions she should NOT be breeding. And I agree about the conditions of the kennels. They are dirty and unkept. And as said, if there are no papers/unregistered AKC then she should not be breeding.
