Lola & Ari

  • @Andrew:

Lola met a Lola-sized basenji at coursing this weekend (although the other pup is not even half her age!) They had a blast playing, and looked cute in their sweaters.

Very nice pics of Lola and the pup!!!

And those sweaters are sooooooo cool – I personally think the argyle pattern/design looks pretty good on brindles...

Looking forward when you make some for my B.. :D

  • I don't understand the first post, but I did enjoy the photos of the b's.
    Thank you for sending them.

I am guessing Nicki is not a fan of the camera! LOL!

  • Ding Ding Ding Ding!

  • Those Bs look SO CUTE in their sweaters! Looks like they had fun playing too!

  • Oh. My. Gosh. How addorable! Now I really want a little brindle. If I had one more square foot of space….:p

  • oooooh… brindles... Here in Holland, there are not so much...

    We've one :D I love them..

    Great pics!

  • Great shots! Love that puppy's face… too cute..

@Mauigirl: that's not a picture to be ashamed of :)

Haha, thanks. I might have mustered a smile had I not been freezing!!!!!!!!!!

  • I see no problem at all with the picture, that's why I posted it!!! Party pooper!

And Sharron, I assume you don't understand the "Lola-sized" part… If I'm right, then here's what I meant. Lola is 11 months; I don't think she'll get much bigger. She's 17 pounds soaking wet after dinner, and the 4 1/2 month old in the picture is the same size as her. I call her my pygmy dog.

  • Yes, I am sorry, I didn't understand your post.
No harm meant..very cute b's, sorry if I offended.

  • Awh, adorable brindles!

  • Don't let size fool you! Damisi is all of MAYBE 15 inches. She looks really skinny, but weighs in at about 19 lbs. She's a solid little girl. Yours may just be 'lighter boned'.

  • There is so much that goes into weight. My girl Rio is 16.5 inches tall at the withers, and has been since she was about 11 months old or so. She weighed about 17 pounds at 1 year old, was up to about 18 pounds at 2 years old and now at nearly 4 she is hovering right around 20 pound in good weight. So even with height not changing her weight has still flucuated. She was always pretty thin at 1-2 years old, now she is still thin but as she has matured she has filled out and her muscle tone has changed.

Of course you didn't offend! Don't be silly…

And as far as Lola's size.... its just PERFECT in my opinion. She still looks like a puppy & has SO much charm & personality for her size. I have always said I would never own a toy breed, but she makes a great toy basenji! Haha. She's my little dogmy!

Miss Kaia has grown up to be such a beautiful girl! That black coat is so gorgeous and glossy. She and Loki make a lovely pair, and they seem so happy together! I love how they're so playful and how Kaia uses Loki for a pillow. LOL! Hmmm… maybe I should rethink getting a second one. But then Ava chews the carpet, eats the plants or pees on my bed and I stick with my singleton plan. ;)

@wubanga: thats pretty cool , congrats, how do u get into something like lure coursing? i dont know much about it. can anyone take there basenji to one of those places? really no clue how it works, how much does it cost? any info appreciated curious if my younger one would chase it. just youtubed it, looks like great fun for the dog. i think mine are too dumb/the other too old to chase it lol Lure coursing is a BLAST! We MUCH prefer it to showing (mostly because I don't have to dress up haha). It is a very instinctual thing… doesn't require any smarts ;) If your basenji likes to chase birds, squirrels, leaves, trash in the wind, shadows, whatever, it will likely chase the lure. Both of my girls took to it the very first time they saw it. There are two organizations that we compete in... ASFA & AKC. In order to compete, you need an AKC number. If you have a rescue or, in my case, a dog registered with Continental Kennel Club, & you don't have AKC papers, you can get an ILP (Indefinite Listing Privelage) number to allow you to compete. There are a few requirements to get it (the dog must be spayed or neutered, you have to submit pictures, you have to have a breeder or breed specific rescue rep sign off on the form, and I heard today a DNA test, but I'm not sure about that... that wasn't a requirement when I got Lola's ILP 2 years ago). You pay a small fee, and it doesn't take too long to get the number. To find events in your area, check out http://asfa.org/ or do an event search on http://www.akc.org/. Be aware that you have to check the trial schedules frequently, as trials often don't get put on the website until a month before the trial. Virginia is in Region 8. Here is the contact info for the Region 8 Director. He should be able to point you in the right direction. REGION 8: NJ,PA,DE,MD,VA,WV Don Ewing (2011) 370 Bollinger Road Littlestown, PA 17340 (717) 357-9606 REG8DIR@asfa.org Lure coursing is a lot of fun for the dogs. Its a lot of waiting in really hot, really cold, windy and rainy weather for humans, but its worth it when you see your dog running all out, doing what it is built to do. Its a little tricky to find the information & trials when starting out, but once you get into it, its a little easier to find out about upcoming events. I know a friend with Ibizan hounds that lives in Virginia. I'll ask her for some more info to pass along to you.

Thanks for the information on Pet Airways. It is certainly a great option for someone wanting to ship and who might be close to their travel destinations. I hope that that expand one day. But certainly I would consider even if I had to drive to LA to pick them up. Glad that all went well and that this wonderful elder basenji has found their forever home. I am sure that Linda E. is just thrilled. And she looks just lovely!!! Kudos for making this happen
