Not good news.

  • You and Lycia are in my thoughts and prayers.

  • Love and good wishes and prayers coming to you and Lycia. Hugs to you.
    Anne

  • Holding you and Lycia in our hearts - hoping for better news this week.

  • Hello All -

Today Lycia went in for her whole body scan.. She came out of anesthesia pretty ok - she was dizzy and disoriented for about an hour but perked right back up and was looking for food stat.

I'm SOOOO happy to say that the vet believes the mass has SHRUNK by 50% and that's with out medication. He isn't confirming anything to me yet until the films and the biopsy results come back from a specialist in the United States.

but all and all, my vet looked pretty darn happy - even if he didn't say so. =)

When I get the results on Monday, I'll let you all know.

  • That is great news… fingers cross that the good news and her recovery keeps happening

  • And everyone should certainly keep the prayers up! Hang in there Lycia, people and curlytails all over the world are pulling for you. And you've done such a great job so far.

  • That's good news. Hope the results will confirm the feeling of the vet monday :)

  • Lauren, what good news!! I'm still keeping up the good thoughts and prayers to you and Lycia. I hope the reports from the states flies on basenji angel wings to you with good news!!

  • Any news, Lauren?

    Regards,
    Esther

  • actually….no.

I haven't heard back from the specialist, but me and Lycia are just pluggin along. She seems to be doing beautifully, and I'm not a expert but im pretty sure her masses have been getting smaller. =)

All and all I'm a happy girl, we'll have to wait and see. Funny thing was when they went into do the scan - my vet said he gave Lycia enough sedative to pacify any normal dog - but she just refused to go down =) He said he has never seen anything like it - she has that Basenji iron will of course.

  • I keep my fingers crossed.

    Regards,
    Esther

  • We're all here for you; our hopes and prayers for a good conclusion.

  • Helloooooooo!

I have brilliant news. :0) I only got a message from the vet, I'll be talking to him later but he told me on my voicemail that they are only good results!! So we are in the clear people. =) And her mass just up and disappeared along with her infection =)

thank you all so much for your warm words, thoughts, prayers. You guys were such a big light these last few weeks. I feel very lucky to be involved in such a supportive community.

    our very best,

  • oh thank goodness! this list was overdue for some good health news.

  • Yes! So glad to hear it!

Any of our experienced basenji folk know what would cause masses to appear then disappear like that?

  • Good news that is sure!

inflammation causes swelling that will disappear when the body gets rid of whatever caused the inflammation (like infection, trauma..) and recovers :)

@DebraDownSouth: Any vet who is not aware of the guidelines and titres isn't one who stays informed enough to be my vet. Any vet who PRETENDS they don't know and tries to push unnecessary vaccine– ditto. Thanks for the post, will share in other dog groups. You're VERY welcome. Thank YOU for sharing with other dog groups!!

Shelley, Bungwa is one of my males from my last litter, he is named after Bungwa of Blean. His full name is Antefaa Bungwa Forest Glory. I've not been in a hurry to get my males tested as I don't intend to breed again. However I get stud enquiries so couldn't consider accepting until he is tested and this applies to my 3 males. You may meet him at the NBS sometime but as you may know I'm not ultra keen on showing. Does any one know whether Gary Johnston has published the details of the direct test as I want to forward the link to Jeff Sampson of the UK Kennel Club? They'll obviosly require published information.

The price I got $78 for 2 x 12 month supply was for the Heartguard Plus, up to 25 lbs, that comes in the blue box. Will be sure to check the expiration dates - thanks for the tip! You also get a $5 off coupon for a next purchase.

@Phebese: We take Max to the Banfield in the Petsmart on Cobb Pkwy in Acworth. We have gone to many different veterinarians but only found two that we feel comfortable with. We have the Banfield insurance which really helps, but most importantly he is comfortable going there and we trust them. He has been there twice in the past couple of weeks getting a cyst removed. They call in between appointments to check on him and see if we have any concerns. We do not like all the Banfield clinics, in fact the one on 92 we did not like. Another good vet is Randy Esbeck at Sawnee Animal Clinic 770-887-1900. He is a Basenji specialist. It's in Cumming Georgia. It's just to far for us to go. Good Luck, Max's Mom (Emily) As they say, it is not the place but the Vet that is working there…. so while many of the Banfield clinic might not be good, when you luck into a good Vet.. that makes the clinic... IMO
