Keoki not eating, stool is runny

Keoki hasn't eaten his food since Sunday {this is Tuesday morning}. He will eat treats. His activity level is normal; he looks fine. I don't know if he's drinking as I haven't seen him drink, but I don't always see that,
This morning he was ready to go outside immediately when he saw me – usually he is not a fast riser. It was dark out so I couldn't see well, but I could hear him pooping -- it was liquid-sounding.
If he had a blockage somewhere, would he also be vomiting?

Usually they do vomit with a blockage, but not always….

Thanks Tanza; that is a big fear partially relieved.
I just gave him some canned food – chicken and rice -- and he's eating it okay.
We'll see if it stays down and/or what happens from here.

Sometimes they can get a virus/bacteria from outside (other dogs, something eaten from the ground etc) and just like we get colds, it will pass.
That said, I would definitely worry and take him to the vet if you see any change in his behavior (lethargy etc) or vital signs. Also I'd go to the vet if he has diarheaha for more than 2 days (even if he seems fine otherwise) so you don't wind up with an electrolyte problem in your dog.
Don't forget, you can always call the vet and describe the symptoms and get their advice. Your vet ought to be able to provide advice over the phone as to whether or not something is serious. If they won't do that, get a new vet.

Take a flashlight out with you this next am and check the poo.
If its bloody, or full of mucus, I would get him to the vet asap.
If its just loose and he is eating and drinking ok, I would watch it.
But it does sound like he got into something that messed him up gut wise…as you know, changing food can cause distress in the gut as well...

This is strange, at least to me.
Last week, you may recall, Keoki had a bout of diarrhea and not eating. This lasted about three days. Last night Jazz refused dinner and this morning has diarrhea. {BOTH of them go outside to poo!! Not one single accident in the house :D [knock on wood]}
What is odd is that I have learned that the German Shepard pup across the street and the Great Dane pup down the street have also both had bouts of diarrhea in the last week. {The Great Dane is HUGE and had diarrhea ALL OVER the house! He has been uncrated, and my kids go down at lunch time to let him out to play a while. They walked in the house and nearly died, :eek: . Had to clean THAT up. The owners finally took us up on our offer to let them use our chain-link outdoor kennel in their garage during the day, LOL}
Anyway.. the GS pup and the Great Dane pup do play together, but our dogs never get near them. Is there some kind of air born virus they could have all picked up? It seems too coincidental that everyone is getting diarrhea, but the do not have contact so…...... :confused:

There was a while, when we were living in the condo last year that all the dogs were getting sick, but nobody ever had them out at the same time. It seemed that by them riding in the same elevator, walking down the same halls, etc, they were all getting this little bug.

Although the dogs don't have direct contact w/ one another, they do all have contact with your KIDS…right?? Could be a bug that is being carried by them back and forth, but that they aren't affected by. I would tell you to make sure that shoes stay outside or in the garage, (so things cannot track in, because that can happen) or walk thru a pan of bleach before coming in, and handwashing (lots of it), and keep clothes that have been around the other dogs away from yours too...
Of course it could just be coincidence...or something else entirely....

Well.. I DID think of that, but Keoki got it first, then the GS - which my kids haven't had anything to do with since mid-summer, then the GD -which my kids see regularly. The GS stays in her yard, I don't walk my dogs in the neighborhood.
I could see if the order was Keoki, GD, GS because the GD and GS do play together.
But you are right, there definitely could be a connection between the kids and dogs somehow. We all remove our shoes upon entering the house, but obviously clothes are changed between dog visits, etc. It's something to think about…..

Viruses and bacteria can persist on the ground, in the air, on various surfaces for differing amounts of time depending on the nature of the beast (or bug as it were) so there may not have to be dog-to-dog or even dog-to-kid contact. Hand washing and shoe removal are always good ideas but there may not be much you can do about it.
On the positive side, people and dogs too usually don't get reinfected with the same bug once they get over it the first time as their immune systems are now prepared for a second bout. Unless Jass or Keoki are immune-suppressed in any way, they ought to be fine here shortly.
