Looking for a brindle basenji male…..

My boyfirend and I have a brown and white female basenji she is about 2 years old. She is extremly playful and she plays with our cats all the time! She really wants to play with other dogs but all the dogs that we know are old and really don't want to play!
We are looking for a brindle stud basenji to mate her out with. We live in Las Vegas, Nevada! We would be willing to pay about $500 for letting us use your dog and we would let you have first pick of the puppies! Our dog is registered (has 7 champions in her bloodline) and we want the male to be registered as well, since we want to get all the puppies registered!
OR we want to buy a male, registered, not neutered, brindle basenji for up to $500 maybe more depending on the age, who is playful since our baby loves to play. We will be happy to help out a rescued male basenji as long as it will get along with cats and will meet our requirements!
She was taken to the vet about 3 months ago because she need to have surgery to remove a towel that she eat! Her surgery was intense and they checked her out, they said that is in great health. She was tested when my boyfirend got her and he thinks it says it on her health papers that came with her! She has been updated with all of her shots!

Has your girl been tested for fanconis?
Have you done the hips and eye tests on her?
Is she a finished Ch. or are you doing lurecouring/agility.
I know these are a lot of questions, but if you have done all of the above, you will be able to find a wonderful boy for your girl. -
What are your goals for this breeding? What does your bitch have to offer the breed? What are her accomplishments? Is she titled in conformation, lure coursing, sprint racing, agility, rally obedience, or other venue? What are her strengths conformationally? What are her conformational faults? How would you describe her temperament?
You say that your vet gave her a clean bill of health. Before most breeders will even consider a bitch for one of their stud dogs they will need to know the dog's OFA number for hips, thyroid, and Fanconi marker test and CERF number for eyes also her registered name so her test results can be verified in the OFA database.
If all you want is a companion for your female, you will save a great deal of money by having your girl spayed and adopting a basenji rescue, http://www.basenjirescue.org or http://www.basenjirescue.com

By all means before even thinking about breeding, health testing needs to be done… DNA for Fanconi, OFA for hips and elbows, CERF for eyes, Blood work for Thyroid.
The biggest and more important regardless of if you are interested in breeding is DNA for Fanconi... Please learn about it at www.basenjihealth.org and it is even easier now with being able to order a cheek swab kit. Another very important thing is the health/temperament/conformation of her littermates, sire/dam, grandparents, great grandparents…. not just she herself.
As far as having champions in the pedigree, that doesn't mean that they should be bred, as lvoss said, What does she offer the breed? It is a big responsibility to bred a litter... screening homes, being responsible for those pups for their entire lifetime, health testings..
My Basenjis (which you can check out at www.tanzabasenjis.net) have all champions in their pedigrees with maybe the exception of one or two in five generations, including themselves. However, they didn't all get bred, nor did they need to…
Please think twice about wanting to breed, read on here about what happen with lvoss's last litter that had to be delivered by C-section. And most recently the bitch that whelped and killed the pups... it is not for the faint of heart. If you are really interested in breeding, find a mentor, learn more about the breed and what breeders are doing to better the breed, not just to bred and sell a litter.

I guess I am more concerned now than I ever was when I see others post about getting into to breeding.
It brings to mind certain questions and maybe with the help of some other very experienced breeders, and some other educated people in this forum a sticky of questions could be put together to make those who are considering breeding to help them really think through it.
I think one of the first questions that should be asked is Why?
Why do you want to breed?
Why do you think you would make a good breeder?
Why should your dog be bred?
Why do so many Breeders go out of business?
Why are the animals shelters in this country overflowing?
Why are rescue organizations overwhelmed at times?
Why are there so many homeless dogs?
I think these questions are a good start.
Another question should be How!
How can you avoid be part of some of the problems mentioned above in the other questions?
How are you going to cover your expenses for Health testing, medical care, housing, food, and other maintenance involved.
How are you going to find all the time necessary to exercise and be fair to the dogs you breed?
How are you going to handle breeding problems and issues that arise?
If there are enough how, where, why, and what questions listed, maybe it will help someone really understand what they are considering getting into and why it might not be the best idea.
I hope others will feel free to add some more questions to this thread. Maybe we can get a sticky for them.

My point would be to please go and read "how to find a breeder" for people looking for a pup… If people that are considering breeding can honestly answer these questions then they would be on their way to being a responsible breeder... this link has been noted many times.. but can never be linked enough.. (IMO)

I AGREE !! Seems lately, just as one thread gets flamed, another starts ;)
Perhaps new posts could be referred to a sticky for basic info. All other requests for info can then be addressed in specific posts. If the sticky hasn't been read, it will be obvious in the first couple of posts and then the sometimes perceived bitter words would be avoided. That said…........
Welcome duffy. Please read the the links provided by long time posters (breeders and pet owners alike). There's GREAT information here.

I think a sticky with the above info would save some hurt feelings.
We have a wonderful wealth of info re dogs, breeding and health on this forum.
It needs to be shared. IMO.
