  • Hi everyone! It is a real treat to have a forum to talk about my favorite breed! We have 6 Basenjis and 1 terrier mutt. I have 2 Bboys I am presently showing which is quite a challenge. I have lots of help from my friends and support from my family. I have enjoyed all of the posts and pics on this forum, and look forward to participating in the future.

PS Don't listen to Basenji Boy! He's just our caretaker here at Basenji Park:rolleyes:

  • Are you just fooling or you're serious about Basenji Boy? Also what is Basenji Park? I hope to see pics of your babies soon!

  • well welcome to the forums( btw i am honored that after typing NEWB it became the new catch fraise here ) ROFL anyway enjoy

We call our place Basenji Park, we have our yards landscaped to give our Babies a jungle feel. We try to give our yards a tropical feel in the Summer, lot's of places for them to explore, run, hunt and a nice porch for them to relax…..it is a Basenj Park.;) Dogtravlr is my wife, she does the dog show circuit up and down the east coast and usually takes two dogs with her. Guess who's back at the Park taking care of the one's she leaves behind? I love them all, and I hate when she takes any of them away for any amount of time.

So yes, I am the Caretaker, landscaper, clean up crew:mad: and Park attendant!

I won't even go into all the other critters my two son's keep, turtles, tortises, fish, a Camen....living in my basement!!!!....it's a Zoo.

  • is it public to all basenji's i think i just might bring Lucy down there sometime and does it have boundries because i dont trust lucy in one place without a leash she see's a squirell and u never see her again.

  • Basenji Boy and Dogtravler,

Where are you in PA? I am originally from the Pocono's but come up to Wilmington, DE a lot to see my sister so we are always walking around Philly.

We live in the Harrisburg area, most of the shows Dogtravler attends are in Maryland and Virginia.

  • You will have to let us know when there is a show in Maryland or Virginia, I would like to come and see the B's do their thing!

  • I will be sure to have Dogtravlr post some dates and places. I only attend a couple a year, it's great to see all the Basenji's and talk with the handlers/breeders, you'll learn so much.

  • We live in Teaneck, NJ Bergen County. I've been in NJ all my life. I grew up in Passaic County.

  • I was born in Passaic and parents moved us to South Jersey….Burlington Co.

  • Not to bud-in, but I'm from NJ too, Wayne, NJ! Moved north to escape the population…I did live near Harrisburg, PA for a bit, many years ago. Lopax Rd. that's all I can remember...

  • Bboy my parents still live in Clifton NJ! Did you go to Passaic HS?? I went to HS in Wayne (De Paul HS its catholic school). And Nala I have lots of family in Wayne NJ. That's not too far from Teaneck at all.

@abonnard Pee pads got me through in the end, she would pee every 20 mins for the first months, then 40 mins, then she suddenly went to being able to hold it for many hours. One of the best purchases I got before she arrived was a small carpet washer, saved my sanity. The cleanup is so key otherwise they go back to the same spot.

@Motala - That is good that you talked to Jan and glad to hear that she had not been spayed. I still think that your Vet and you should connect with Dr. Gonto about your girl's blood work and blood gas results and if he has any thoughts about it.

@Sunny: So the African is larger than the American ?? Ill be posting newer pics tonight i finally got off my lazy rear and took film to be developed… but none of them are with in the last 2 weeks... she looks Basenji just she does bark but its rarely that she does ... and shes not the crisp white and red more a fawn and white... The Africans seem to be bigger, I'm sure there is the exception. Does she bark or is it more like a woof? Some of our basenji's sort of woof, but I wouldn't call it a bark. I don't know if you've ever visited this site, give it a look, lot's of 'Different" looking Basenjis. Navigate to the on-line library, many interesting articles on the Basenji in Africa. http://basenji.org/african/intro.htm http://basenji.org/african/library.htm
